The Genealogist has a good collection of tithe maps, with links to the lists of names etc. Chetwynd Aston and Woodcote appear to be included, though it's sometimes hard to tell if every sheet covering a parish is there.
Thanks for the reply. I did look at that site but I couldn't make head nor tale of it and there didn't seem to be a way to buy a single item, it all appeared to be subscription based.

Shropshire / Newport Tithe Map Online?
« on: Wednesday 18 October 23 18:25 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone tell me if the tithe map(s) for the Newport area are available online as a journey to the Archives at Shrewsbury is quite a jaunt.

I'm interested in the area south of the town: Chetwynd Aston, Pave Lane, Woodcote etc.

Many thanks

Paul

Where is it a map of?
It's in Staffordshire but the precise location has to remain confidential I'm afraid.

This is a very long shot but here goes!

We've always read the text from this map as 'Site of the Old Hall' but I'm not convinced about the first word and wonder if anyone has another suggestion? It seems to start with 'S' but it looks as if the third letter not the second is 'i'.

The blobs left of the word 'of' and lower centre of the image are trees. No better image is available I'm afraid and the feature isn't shown on any later map (there are no earlier maps either) :(

TIA

Paul

EDIT: forgot to include the word 'the' in the original post!

Technical Help / Re: Duplicate an Ancestry Tree
« on: Tuesday 14 March 23 13:58 GMT (UK)  »
I don't use Ancestry or any other online tree but isn't there an option to download/back up your tree?

If so you could do that, import the resulting .ged file into any desktop program, prune the tree as required then upload the results to a new tree (assuming you're allowed more than one!).

So, the steps would be:

Leave existing Ancestry tree as is
Download entire tree
Import downloaded tree to desktop app, prune as required and save as new tree
Upload resulting pruned tree to new tree online

I'm trying to pin down the marriage of James Nickless and Sarah Whitworth in February 1827 at Aston, Birmingham. FamilySearch.org has two entries, one for 4th Feb and the other for 18th (both of which are Sundays). I'm wondering if someone has made a mistake and the first date could relate to banns? Unfortunately I don't have access to the original registers so any help would be very welcome.
