Herefordshire / Evans of Whitbourne House, Whitbourne, Hereford

This is not a family related to my own but one that has intrigued me. Some years ago I made a wonderful find in a junk shop in Tewkwsbury. Pure art to me but a skilfully fashioned 'Spinning Stool'. It has the most wonderfyl 'chip carving on the seat and back support. On the back of the support is carved as follows:
To Whitbourne Grannie
Dear Granma we hope you will accept this chair
Made from the wood of a Whitbourne Pear
Bonnie and Brave
Small token of love that
we all of us feel
Carved to the best of our knowledge and zeal
Let the Deed show

Rupert carved his name with a 5 year olds skill.
Of course I had to find out more and was astounded to discover that they were not a rustic family with Granny Whitbourne earning a living from her spinning but 'landed gentry'. The boys all appear to have attended Charterhouse and then Trinity Caimbridge. They were just in time for the First World War with commissions in the Army or Navy. Rupert died in an accident at his Barracks when he was only 24. Geoff became a Naval Surgeon. Not proven but there is a portrait of a Brigadier General Cuthbert Evans at The National Portrait Gallery. Margery/Margaret appears to has inherited the Artistic talent as she was an Art Student. Quite amazing.
Is there anyone who can tell me more.
I do know Granny Whitbourne was Scottish - hence the 'Bonnie and Brave'. Alice Emily = the Mum, must have been one of those American ladies who came over to marry a person of substance. Echoes of Downton Abbey ?
I just wish I knew who did carve my stool as it is a true work of sculpture. Did they feel they had to abandon all artistic dreams and follow tradition ?.
Any input appreciated.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / James Harry 'Ginger' Lacey

My husbands family are the Laceys of KENT. I have researched this family back to 1650. However, they are adamant that their family is related to Ginger Lacey the amazing WWII fighter Ace wo was born in Wetherby, West Riding of Yorkshire. I have gone up as many side shoots as I have been able but have found no connection at all.
Is there anyone out there researching Gingers family and have they come accross any connection at all to the Laceys of KENT ?

Dorset Lookup Requests / 1851 Census - Emma Painter

I once found this 1851 Census record with 13 year old Emma PAINTER working as a servant in the household of a Rev Budge in Corfe Castle, Wareham, Dorset. At the time I did not think she was my Emma and just made a note of it.
I now realise she was mine but despite trying Ancestry and various sites, I haven't been able to find it again.
Can someone help me here, I would be eternally grateful as its driving me nuts.

On this Site some considerable time ago, someone posted photographs of two women. The photos had been found lying in a street in FRINDSBURY. At the time, although I saw a reasemblence to my husbands relatives, I was not confident enough to make claim them. I have now made contact with long lost cousins who would most likely be able to identify them.
How can I find this site again ?

Thankyou so much for that. The Kitney site is amazing. Did not find the marriage of Mary Kitney to William Lacey but I followed links and found myself on sites I had no idea existed. Able to glean lots of missing info.

Can anyone help regarding LACEY ancestors who were understood to have been working and residing at Leeds Castle, Leeds, Kent.
The Lacey's were living at Leeds from about 1650 to about 1800's. Employed at the Castle - dates unknown. I was wondering if anyone might be specialising in the history of the Castle and have access to Staff records. The only info are the names Thomas and Anne, John and Elizabeth, Edward and Mercy, William and Mary, Thomas and Hannah.
Other surnames of interest are Ditcher, Cloke, Collison, Waghorn, Kitney and Gilbert. They may have been fellow servants and nature took it's course etc. Any information at all about staffing in Leeds Castle would be so appreciated.
