Hi Michael,

Thank you very much for taking a look - you're ever so kind!  :)

I've just been doing some more research, and found that Ann's mother actually got married to both of her husband's at All Saints, Newcastle. And that her maiden name was Elliott, not Turnbull as I first thought.

I don't suppose that you'd like to check again for me?  ;)

It will be Ann Nicholson, daughter of John Nicholson & Jane Elliott, born 1849
Christened at All Saints, Newcastle

I'm pretty certain that you'll find something for this one!

Many thanks again for all your help - you're a star!

Karen

Hi Jean,

I did know about Hannah's husband, Christopher Waiting & their children, Joseph & Ethel. I also knew about her having George out of marriage (although I don't know who the father of George was). Although I don't have any further info, eg who Joseph & Ethel married, etc.

On Herbert's birth certificate in 1869, only 'Hannah Steel' is named. Then on the 1871 census, Herbert is living in St Mary Bishopshill Junior, with George Burn, and his wife, Louisa (although I don't know the connection there) - he is just listed as a 'nursing child', being just over 1 year old. I could not find Hannah Steel anywhere on the 1871 census.

On the 1881 census, Herbert Steel is living with Hannah Steel, but listed as her 'nephew'. If he was her nephew, he would be either her sister's or her brother's child - and that doesn't tie in with the birth certificate having just the mother's name (Hannah Steel) on it.

If you would like to contact me directly, I would love to discuss further. Hannah Steel would be my g-g-grandmother.

Hi Michael,

That's very kind of you!

Many, many thanks,

Michael,

Thanks for your reply.

The baptism would of taken place at St Bartholomew's, as the descending family were Anglican.
I did get the estimated birth date from the free BMD site. I think that I should order a certificate first to show an exact date of birth.

Do you know of anyway of me checking the parish records of St Bartholomew's (other than going in person to the records office)?

Many thanks

Karen

Steve

Thanks for trying. I'd already looked there & found the same thing, unfortunately.

Warwickshire Lookup Requests / Baptism record look up request for Aston, Birmingham
« on: Tuesday 24 February 09 22:11 GMT (UK)  »
Please could someone look up a baptism record for me?

I think that the baptism would of taken place at Holy Trinity, Bordesley for someone born in the Aston area - that is what I've been informed, anyway.

Details are as follows:

Herbert Steel (born 21st June 1869 at 100 Ravenhurst Street, Aston)

Mother - Hannah Steel (unmarried)
Father - unknown

I think that the baptism probably would of taken place between 21st June 1869 and mid 1871 (when Herbert Steel went to live in Yorkshire).

I am trying to find out the name of his father and have exhausted other means of research.

I would be very grateful if somebody could help me.

Regards

Please can someone look up a baptism record for the following person?

Ann Nicholson

Born in Long Benton, N'Land between Apr-June 1849
(I think that she was born in the Westmoor area - but I don't know what parish church would cover that area)

Father's name - John Nicholson
Mother's name - Jane Nicholson (nee Turnbull)

She probably would of been baptised between 1849 & 1851.
In 1850, Ann Nicholson's father died, and in 1851 her mother remarried to a man called William Hogg. Ann then assumed her step-father's surname (including on her marriage cert).

I would be very grateful for any help that anyone can offer.

Many, many thanks

Karen
