Midlothian / Re: ANN DUNN EDINBURGH

Hi Andrew
I haven't done any further research, however, I believe Ann was a midwife in Australia, so perhaps she may have accompanied another family.

With the names you have provided I might be able to track this lady down and see if we have a common ancestor. Dunn/Dunne is such a common name on shipping lists, but with other names it might make tracking a bit easier.

What date is the last recorded entry in the UK for this family?
It might also help if you could provide birth, marriage, death dates of each member of this family.

I'll certainly let you know if I find anything.
Regards Shirley

Thank you for the information. I know of this Ruff family, but to date have not been able to tie it into my family.

I can't help with solving your query - but wondered if over the subsequent years since putting this question on Rootschat you have came up with anything. My Manners family, though just a twig from the Orr family would be related through Thomas and Jean/Jane Stevenson. I'm also trying to track down the possibility of a more direct relationship with the Manners and Orr families.

I have not been able to prove categorically but I think my John Manners born 1789 Glasgow to John Manners (born 1732 Greenock) and Helen Bull/Bole is where the connection may be to the Orr family.
It is possible that this John's (1732) parents are William Manners and Isabel Orr.
I'm also wondering if there might be a link from Isabel to James and Agnes (nee Madden) Orr. It's just a tentative thought, but as the Orr families seem to be from the same districts there is a possibility. Of course I could be barking up the wrong tree altogether.

Just getting back to some research and wonder if anyone has sorted some of this family out.

I don't know what happened to Daniel Ruff, born abt 1797, married to Ann Noble. I'm wondering if Daniel might have died on arrival and no one knew how to register his death. Has anyone been able to find anything.

I have found a possible death record for Daniel and Ann's son Daniel in 1899, at Parramatta, NSW, Reg No. 6859. I have not ordered certificate.

Also still like to know any info about Robert Mark Noble Ruff, if anyone has found anything.

Also has anyone proved Susan Ruff's death as that being 12 May 1868.

Cheer

COMPLETED

Thank you so much for this information. I was very ill myself on the day of his funeral so couldn't go. I've been trying to sort out the Ruff family for a while. I did not know of Mark's Fantasy Portraits. So thank you for that also.
Cheers

Hello cousin.

I would appreciate a transcript at least of Janet's death certificate. And any other information on this family. If you want to know more on the Manners family I can help you there. I have produced a book called 'A Most Suitable Trade: The John Manners Story' of my 3xg grandfather, grandson of John Manners and Agnes Montgomery - I am still trying to prove that this John's parents are John Manners and Helen Bull/Bole. The birth record of their son John as my 3xg's father seems to fit but that's the only proof I have at this time.

Looking forward to sharing information,
Cheers
Shirley
