Technical Help / Re: Creating folders for e-mails?
« on: Monday 30 October 17 16:30 GMT (UK)  »
I can think of two options using Gmail:

1.  Select the email you want to remove from your inbox then click on the little down arrow on the Move to button (looks like a folder).  In there you can select an existing folder or click 'Create new' to make a new one and your email  will be moved there.  It won't be removed from your account but will no longer appear in your inbox.  If there any attachments, they will be moved too.
You can retrieve the email/attachements in future by opening the folder from the list on the left.

Alternatively:

2. Open the email you want to remove from your inbox and then click the little printer icon that appears to the right hand side of the email title.  This will open a new window.  Click the Change button shown near Destination and then select Save as pdf.  The window will close and you'll be back at the Print window.  Click on Save and then select the folder you want to save the email to.  You can change the file name to something more meaningful if you want to and then click save.  This will convert the email to a pdf file (which makes it difficult to amend).  You can then delete the email from your inbox because it's safe in it's new location (as long as you back up regularly, like any other files).  If there are any attachments to your email, it's a good idea to save them separately.  It saves the whole email including the data/time it was sent, the sender and the recipients.

Hope that helps.

Technical Help / Re: Script error
« on: Saturday 09 April 16 15:28 BST (UK)  »
Hi Carol,

It's not a solution to your problem but a workaround.  You can import your favourites from Internet Explorer to Chrome by clicking on the symbol that looks like 3 horizontal bars (top right corner of Chrome screen, just under the 'Close' cross). Click on 'Bookmarks', then click on 'Import bookmarks and settings...'  Another box will open and you should select 'Microsoft Internet Explorer' then you can select all the items you want to import such as your bookmarks, browsing history and so on.  At least this way you can carry on working in Chrome without having to look for all your favourite sites while you look for a proper solution to your problem. :)

Is there a 'Forgot Password' function on the log-in screen? Perhaps this link helps: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows-live/account-reset-password-forgot-faq

Once Chrome is open you can import your bookmarks from IE.  In the top right of your Chrome window click on the symbol that looks like 3 horizontal bars.  Click on 'Bookmarks' than click on 'import bookmarks and settings'.  This will open another tab and you just follow the instructions to import from IE. I hope that helps.

Technical Help / Re: Windows updates for May
« on: Wednesday 13 May 15 10:17 BST (UK)  »
Website developers use Silverlight to render websites for use on various operating systems and browsers so you need it to view these sites properly.  It's often used for video streaming so if you don't use NetFlix, itvPlayer, Amazon etc. you probably don't need it.

.Net is required by some programs and is usually installed by a program that needs it.  So it's debatable whether you need to keep applying updates after installation unless your program itself is updated...  :)

Some aspects of Internet Explorer are used by some programs e.g. checking you have a valid licence, security etc.

I hop that helps

Omega is represented by Unicode 03A9 and the double wavy line is Unicode 2248.  They can be accessed in word 2013 by selecting the Insert tab and then selecting Symbol.  A Unicode map can be found at  http://unicode-table.com/en/#control-character. Hope that helps.

Technical Help / Re: Extract pictures from pdf and save as different type?

You could use the snipping tool in Windows.  Just open the pdf and then use the shipping tool to highlight the image then save it as a .jpg file.

Technical Help / Re: PDF FILE
« on: Thursday 29 January 15 13:02 GMT (UK)  »
Is the problem that there is too much detail to print legibly on one A4 sheet and so you want to print your file across several sheets?  If so, open your pdf file and press the print icon (or click on file and then on print). This will open the Print dialogue box.  If you are using Adobe Reader to view the page, about half way down this dialogue box there is an option to print as poster and this will print your file over several shets so it should be easier to read.

Hope that helps  :)
