Dorset / Re: Albert Edward Hunt born Poole bet 1884-87
« on: Sunday 16 February 14 17:42 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I'm fairly new to this so forgive me if I have missed something !

I am wondering how you know that Albert was born in Poole ? Is this perhaps, where his sister was born ? If his parents were both living and got married in Willesdon I just can't figure out the Poole connection.

Sorry, not much help to you, I know, but I was curious  :)

Census Lookup and Resource Requests / Re: 1891 Census Look up Please
« on: Sunday 05 January 14 19:58 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I just wondered in what context he was mentioned in the will ? If he is not a beneficiary, just an executor then it is most likely he is probably a family friend, or acquaintance who was deemed reliable enough to be able to administer the estate properly. You may find he has no connection to Janie at all.

I know you originally posted this on the deciphering and recognition thread and it was moved by the mods, but it may be worth asking if they could move it back. Or possibly start a new topic in that section posting the photo for identification as this is the mystery you have at the moment. It looks very much like a stately home to me and, if it is still standing, may have been visited by someone on their holidays !

Good luck. I'm sure someone will recognise it.

Wiltshire / Re: Salisbury General Hospital or "Odstock" Military Hsopital 1944-1945
« on: Sunday 24 February 13 23:07 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,  The old Odstock hospital stood on the site of the present day Salisbury hospital, just outside Salisbury its self. Before the new building, it was little more than a collection of  prefabricated army type huts. These were used as a military hospital during the war then were used until fairly recently as a maternity unit and a specialist burns unit. They were gradually replaced and a new District hospital built on the site replacing both hospitals in Salisbury. Salisbury general hospital was actually in the town centre and was an old workhouse style building. Perhaps, this is what you have pictures of. If you could post the photos this could maybe confirm this.

Hi, this is taken in the upper gardens in Bournemouth.Near to the war memorial, I recognised the wall !
There is a picture on flickr that shows the tower which is next-door to what is now the town hall.

My first time that I have recognised anywhere !  ;D

Hampshire & IOW Lookup Requests / Re: Buried Where?
« on: Monday 24 December 12 19:42 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I'm pretty sure that by the 1940's Christchurch workhouse was a hospital. Sandbanks is in Poole so I would start looking for a burial in the Poole area rather than Christchurch. They are a few miles apart and were in different counties at the time. Poole was in Dorset and Christchurch was in Hampshire. It may make a difference to where you search.

Family History Beginners Board / Re: someone's pinched my Gt Grandma
« on: Saturday 03 November 12 22:06 GMT (UK)  »
I've only just joined Mundia as I saw a post about it on here the other day. I was amazed at the inaccuracy of the first tree I looked at ! I was quite surprised to find that my great grandfather appeared in different areas of the county on every Census even though I know he lived in the same house for 80 years. He managed to have a child several years after his death. And to cap it all he apparently died in 1926 which is strange considering my mum has pictures of him with her as a child and she wasn't born until 1950  :-\
I haven't studied many other trees on there yet but it certainly seems that some people are just name collectors. The irony is that as they have obviously made a mistake with my G Grandfather so have the wrong parents for him that the rest of the tree is all wrong. I can't see any point in wasting the time on a tree which is not checked thoroughly. As this is all from a period of 1880- 1960 which is so well documented there is little excuse for making guesses.
I think I will keep my tree private when I finally get round to documenting properly.

Dorset / Re: John BUDDEN c1709 Dorset
« on: Saturday 03 November 12 21:40 GMT (UK)  »
Hello, it might be worth googling 'Buddens Dorset' as they were quite a prolific family and I know there are several well researched branches out there. My GGG grandmother was a Budden but I haven't really got going on that side of the family yet ! I know there are several others researching them on Rootschat so I'm sure somebody will help you out

Hampshire & Isle of Wight / Re: New Forest Register Office
« on: Sunday 15 July 12 12:56 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I'm not sure if this will help or throw a spanner in the works, but Ringwood Registry Office was part of the Christchurch District which covered a lot of New Forest towns at this time. This was certainly the case in 1969 when I was born. Maybe contact them to see if they could help you.
