Just a thought - If Lily/Teresa are the same person and was born in 1916 and not as the marriage cert suggests 1911, she would have been a minor (17) when she married Harry - maybe married without parental permission? That might give rise to not being quite so truthful with her details!

I didn’t know she’d obtained a copy of her MC

She was married in 1934, but look at the date where it says "witness my hand" 16th April 1940. The original would have been issued at the time of the wedding.

At last I’ve managed to get hold of the MC

So that makes Teresa b 1911 & yet I can’t find any birth record for her, nor anything about her father.

The key query here is:  why did Teresa call all her children Hibbert and yet on birth records put her name down as Teresa (formerly Woollas) and not Budlin (which was her official maiden name).

According to the 1939 register and the 1945/46 Poll register she was listed as Teresa Hibbert.

If only I could find out Teresa’s mother’s maiden name.  Am I missing something?

and just being inquisitive - why did she need to get a copy of her marriage certificate in 1940, 6 years after the wedding. She may have lost the original, but how many times have you ever needed to show your marriage certificate for anything?  Teresa truly is a mystery!!  Can only find her "father" in one census.

Morning Gan Yam

It is a complete mystery.

We know that Teresa Budlin married Harry Hibbert in ‘34.  Possibly this Janet T Hibbert was a result of that marriage (b 1935)

Then we have a Maureen J (b 1938), Jill (b ‘40), Keith R (b ‘41), and Roy BH (b ‘43).  All mothers are Woollas.

But on Roy’s BC, Teresa Hibbert’s maiden name is down as ‘formerly Woollas’ - not Budlin!  Am I missing something so obvious….

🙆🏻‍♀️

I think that the Dec 1936 birth MMN is recorded as Wallas but this is could well be a mis transcription and this is a possible child on the 1939 register.

I suppose unless you have all the certificates, there is no way of knowing if they say formerly Woollas, or whether Teresa and Harry are the parents, but as it appears to be an unusual combination of surnames, so quite likely.

Maybe Teresa was married before, or was born with one name and adopted another name as a child because of family relationships and swapped between the two.

(My OH's grandparents had 4 children and two were registered with grandmothers maiden name and two were registered with her previous married name as maiden name, so things are not always recorded correctly and the information is only as good as the informer.)

There doesn't seem to be an easily identifiably birth for Teresa under either name!

Well, she certainly sounds one hell of a mystery!  I’m certain she renamed herself Woollas.

Baby boy (Roy) b to Harry & Teresa Hibbert (formerly Woollas) in ‘43

There are two other possible Hibbert births in Grimsby,  one in 1935 and one in 1936, and one in Cleethorpes in 1938.  These could be the 3 redacted entries.

There are also two other possible births one in Louth in 1940 and one in Cleethorpes in 1941

(One has MMN as Budlin and others are Woollas, although a mixture of spellings)

Was Edith an orphan? I see a 1914 birth registration for an Edith Nundy in Grimsby. MMN also Nundy.

There's a possible baptism record https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QL1K-L33N

and there may also be a brother https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:CJJM-7V3Z

In 1939 there is a Edith M MUNDY (looks like NUNDY on the image) living in Grimsby, with the same DOB you give.

It definitely looks like Nundy, but there is  no name additions beside the entry, so if she did marry it was never noted on the register.

Edith may have been a domestic in Grimsby (according to the 1939 register - and with a spelling variant).

The register says she was unemployed, so presumably it was domestic work within her home.

Two possible baptisms for William Armstrong of Lanercost:

3 Nov 1799 parents William Armstrong and Jane Scott Armstrong.  Marriage 6 Jan 1787

3 May 1802 parents John Armstrong and Mary Noble. Marriage 18 Dec 1797, although this William appears to have married Elizabeth Little
