Derbyshire / Re: Richard Crossley 1743 - 1815
« on: Friday 14 August 15 16:31 BST (UK)  »
Hi Steve

My family are descended from William Irwin & Mary Crossley (their daughter Selina to be exact). Would be interested to get in touch as I've done a bit of research on the family - but some of it contradicts yours so would be great to sort out the inconsistencies.

Cambridgeshire / Re: Dawson/Ingle mystery
« on: Friday 31 October 14 11:15 GMT (UK)  »
Thanks for all your help, Milliepede and Galium!

I've finally had a moment to examine all the info and do some more research so here's a bit of an update:

I've identified Elizabeth Dawson (b. 14 Apr 1808, Margate) as the daughter of Thomas Dowson and Honor Ingle from the marriage mentioned. Elizabeth Dawson and William Ingle (her husband) were second cousins and this seems to confirm that the connection was through the Ingle family. Thomas Dowson had died before the 1851 census and I can't find him in 1841 so no info on him so far. They had six children I can find: John, Elizabeth, Thomas, Honora, James and Mary. Honor Ingle was born (according to the 1851 census) around 1779 in Bloomsbury - but I've had no luck finding her. She died in 1864 in Kent.

On to the Ingle side: Milliepede, where did you find this?
Quote
Timothy baptised 22 Nov 1781 parents Joseph and Elisabeth.
I can't seem to find that record anywhere - I have found parents that would fit. Joseph Ingle married Elizabeth Little in 1772 and they had six children: Thomas, Elizabeth, Joseph, Thomas Carter, Joseph, Joseph Robert. Obviously a high rate of infant mortality though I haven't found any death/burial records for the children.

Now: Hannah Martha Douce (Doucc). Galium, I think your baptism record is correct which means her parents were Thomas Dowse and Mary Cook who married in Deptford in 1760. They had six other childre: Mary, Thomas, William, William, Ann and Richard. I couldn't find a death record for Hannah: she could be the Hannah Maria Ingle who died in Lewisham in 1854, but I think it is more likely that she is Martha Hannah Ingle who died in Strand 1857 (which is where she was in the 1851 census).

Thanks again for the help - and if anyone has ideas on how to find more info on the connection between Timothy Ingle and Honor Ingle that would be fabulous! I'm also interested in finding out if the Douce/Dowse connection does connect up with the Dawson/Dowsons.

England / Re: Italian Count?
« on: Sunday 21 September 14 17:25 BST (UK)  »
So I finally got myself an account and read the full newspaper report of this marriage and found that Count Giovanni, age 27 (therefore born c. 1904) was the son of the late Count Gacton Parrilli. Google, Ancestry, Findmypast are all drawing a blank. Anyone able to discover anything else on this family? Ages ago I found a history of Italian aristocrats online which included the Parrilli family (but of course couldn't find the initial Count Giovanni on it) - I have subsequently lost any reference to it so if anyone has any ideas on sites which may fit the bill it would be fantastic!
Gactan may be 'Gactano' or even a misprint of 'Gaetan'...?

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / Re: Charles Arnold 1861 Census
« on: Sunday 14 September 14 11:57 BST (UK)  »
Thanks for your help Bookbox! Unfortunately it's back to the drawing board for me as I found that particular Charles Arnold in Alton, Hampshire in the 1841 census and it looks like his father is a Daniel Arnold.  ??? Oh well....

Annette - there's a whole thread on this topic from a while back (http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=612396.0). Charles married Ann in 1862 and had two children (Charles & Joseph) before dying in around 1865. Joseph is my ancestor and I've got his movements sorted out, but his brother seems to disappear after the 1881 census.

Thanks again for the help.

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / Charles Arnold 1861 Census
« on: Sunday 14 September 14 10:36 BST (UK)  »
Is anyone able to find the full record of:
Charles Arnold 23 Barge Builder Labourer Middlesex 1838 Allen Devon
from the 1861 Census.

I was able to find this record on a free search at thegenealogist.co.uk but never accessed the full record. I now have membership at Findmypast but this record doesn't show up at all - very confusing.

I'm looking for a lighterman named Charles Arnold who married Ann Maria Hall (nee Pocock) in 1862 in Hounslow. His father was also named Charles Arnold and was a carpenter. Hopefully this is the right person!

Thanks in advance :)

Surrey / Re: Anslow Butcher

It's possible - John Worley died 1843/1845 St Pancras.
However, John & Anslow had a daughter also called Anslow who was born in 1808. Does the marriage record state that it was a widow?

I don't have any more information on the daughter.

Thanks Tinam!

Oh dear.... doesn't sound like the John Crossley I'm looking for. No indications of Ashby de la Zouch in the family tree.

Thanks Carol!

Surrey / Anslow Butcher
« on: Thursday 01 May 14 12:28 BST (UK)  »
With such an unusual name I was sure that I would be able to find some information on a very great-grandmother of mine Anslow Butcher - but no luck so far on finding out where she came from...

She married John Worley on 13 May 1807, St Mary Magdalen and they had 8 children. I am descended from her daughter Jane Louisa (1819-1899).

If anyone is able to find any information on her (death, baptism, parents etc) - would be very much appreciated.

Thanks!

I have one possibility for an earlier marriage - but lack enough info to confirm it:
Name:    John Crossley
Spouse's Name:    Hannah Litherland
Event Date:    1820
Event Place:    Longford, Derbyshire, England
Indexing Project (Batch) Number:    M05549-2
System Origin:    England-VR
GS Film number:    496705

John was the son of John and Mary Crossley of Hollington/Brailsford, Derbyshire.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!  :)
