if you google(a) monmouthshire parish records on line (b) select Genuki genealogical research (c) select church records (d) select monmouthshire parish register transcriptions (e) tab down and select Raglan transcripts you should find them there

Monmouthshire has the good fortune to have much of their Parish records on line - free.

Don't forget to photo 4 Crescent St also - where he was a Wine Merchant - if it still exists.

Glamorganshire / Re: Captain John James Wright 1865-1911

He may be on the 1911 Census but I cannot disclose details because of copyright issues. I had read the transcribed information only before posting earlier, which didn't provide any clues, but after revisiting the actual census page itself there is a possible clue in the reference to his employer + letters after his name.
The 1911 Census also specifies "how long married" but even using that info still cannot find a marriage for John Wright and Florence Smith.

Birth of John James Wright registered Whitchurch (Shropshire not Cardif!!), Jun 1864, Qtr 6a 740.
Death of John J Wright registered Cardiff, Dec 1911 11a 437 age 50. Could possibly be your man?

Census 1871 - Wright Family
Elizabeth, widow, age 52, Bunbury
Henry, son, age 25, Coachman, Aston
William, son, age 20, Coachman, Woodhouse
Rhoda, dau, age 16, Milliner, Whitchurch
Alice, dau, age 14, Scholar Teacher, Whitchurch
Clara, dau, age 11, Whitchurch
John James, son, age 6, Whitchurch
Address - Georges Terrace Garston

Joseph, age 44 (cattle Dealer) and Elizabeth, age 42 are on the 1861 Census with Elizabeth 17, Henry 15, Joseph 13, William 10, Rhoda 6, Alice 4 and Clara 1. This links John to a Joseph and Elizabeth as identified by Gran.

In 1881 Elizabeth is at 77 Gladstone Rd west Derby, Lancs and John James is 17 and a Cotton Brokers Clerk
In 1891 Elizabeth is at 4 Camm St, Toxteth Park, L'pool and John is Clerk

No link with John and the sea to this date but no guarantee the above is your John James Wright

Dorset Lookup Requests / Re: The Clifton Hotel, Weymouth - now the Railway Tavern?
« on: Saturday 13 March 10 21:36 GMT (UK)  »
Can't answer your query about the the Clifton Hotel being renamed the Railway Tavern but Kelly's Directory of Dorset (1911 and 1915 editions) refer to a Clifton Hotel, Queen St, Weymouth but there is no mention of a Railway Tavern/pub/Inn for the same periods. The Clifton references are

William Robert Pruden, Clifton Hotel, Queen St & Wine Merchant, 4 Crescent St

Clifton Hotel, first class commercial house; large parties catered for, tariff on application (William Robert Pruden Proprietor), Queen St. T A "Clifton Weymouth;" T N 248 (wd that be an early phone no?)
