Hi tom-dick, because you very kindly gave the full birth date for Reginald, I looked his birth up on Freebmd, and found (If I am correct) that his mothers maiden name was Roberts, and that Reginald was born in Gloucestershire, so I then searched for a marriage of a Redding to an Alice Roberts and found this:-

Harry Redding to Alice Emily Roberts Sept 1899 Gloucester 6a 641

Hi Aber, I had a look at the 1901 Census for Harry, what is clear (to me at least) is which of the 3 facts are you convinced with ie The marriage/Death/Shipping Record, as their are 2 Harry Howarth's b c 1883/4 in Rochdale, 1 has a Father James occ Labourer and also a brother John R aged19, and the other has parents John and Elizabeth.

The Harry Howarth with parents John and Elizabeth is shown on the 1901 as an Apprenticed Joiner.

Sorry if this is long-winded, but thought you may like to digest, and then reply.

Hi do you have him on any census returns as in 1851 he is in Gayton married with children, or do you require only the pre 1837 info?
