South Africa / Edward D W PARKER
« on: Saturday 15 January 11 13:40 GMT (UK)  »
Looking for details regarding Edward D W Parker, born about 1819 in Grahamstown, who married Sarah Jarman in Grahamstown on 30 October 1841. Who were his parents and were they part of the 1820 Settlers?. I understand that he was a lawyer/solicitor, and may have come to Australia at some stage. Sarah was born about 1823 in Grahamastown, and father was Thomas Jarman.

Hope someone can help

Thanks Gillian for your research,

The correct Thomas Jarman is the one that was Wine Merchant, as I have his offer to the authorities go to SA, and he listed he was involved in the wine making industry (see attached). Further evidence will be needed to confirm which Thomas is the father of Sarah and the others.

My Lord,
Tis not without some feelings of diffidence that I address your Lordship upon the subject of emigration but that having heard it is the desire of Government to forward people to that colony (the Cape of Good Hope) who are capable of affording assistance to the cultivating of land and improving the general produce of that country, I take the liberty of offering myself to the notice of your Lordship. I have a perfect knowledge of the making up of wines having been in the trade several years and feel fully persuaded that article is to be with skilful management greatly improved. With your sanction my Lord I will select ten with myself for your enquiry and inspection (the number I believe your Lordship treats with) several of whom are now ready to engage. Waiting your reply my Lord, I remain
Your Lordship's most obd't devoted st
Thos. JARMAN

I also have copy of correspondence to the same authorities by his mother confirming Thomas was travelling to SA with Wife & child, however, there are no records of the couple with him on the 'Weymouth'. I will look further into the NAAIRS for further confirmation.

Thanks again

South Africa / Families of Thomas JARMAN
« on: Monday 03 January 11 12:47 GMT (UK)  »
Looking for any details of the Descendants of Thomas JARMAN who emigrated to South Africa in January 1820 on the ship 'Weymouth' arriving in May 1820 with his wife Martha and daughter Elizabeth Emma. Thomas was born in 1792 in Bishopsgate, England and understand he died in Eastern Cape, but no date.

I found Thomas on the transcribed Passenger list for that ship but his wife & daughter were not listed. Thomas later apparently married again to Emily ? in 1822 in Grahamstown.

I understand he had six children; (Rootsweb Entry)
Elizabeth Emma Jarman married ?, possibly to a C W Parkenham
Sarah Jarman married Edward Parker 1841 Grahamstown (Sighted)

The following possibly fron second marriage.

Lucy Jarman
Kate Jarman married ? possibly unknown Mannerswood
Emily Jarman married ? possibly unknown Turner
George Jarman

I am looking for possible links to see if there are any living descendants

Hope someone can help.

The Common Room / Iris G SIBLEY
« on: Monday 20 December 10 13:37 GMT (UK)  »
I am tring to find out what happened to Iris G Sibley, born Sept. Qtr. 1915 in West Ham District. Her parents were William Sibley and Maud Van Okker who married in December Qtr. 1909 in West Ham district. William and Maud later divorced and Maud married a Charles Simons Havard in Sept. Qtr. 1921.

Iris would have been 6 years old at this time and she probably had her named changed to Havard. However I can find no marriage or death for either Iris G Sibley or Havard. I have just been down the track of believing I had the right Iris when I found a marriage of Iris G J Sibley to George Cuda, however this turned out to be wrong, so I start again

It is possible that if Iris married and had children, they could be the last remaining of this particular Sibley line in England. I am in Australia and have  all the details of the only member of the family that came to Australia.

Can someone help or offer advice on best way to find Iris.

South Africa / Samuel TOLLEY
« on: Tuesday 14 December 10 13:28 GMT (UK)  »
Searching for the details and ancestors of Samuel TOLLEY who married Esther Rosetta Holland on 27 August 1851 in Somerset East, South Africa.

I believe they had a daughter, Rosetta Ann Tolley who married a Thomas Henry Prynn Ivey around the early 1880's and are the parents of Mary Prynn Ivey.

It is possible that Samuel emmigrated to South Africa from England.

I am looking for Samuel's & Esther's parents & Location, and any details on their children. Hope you can help.

Best Regards,

Thanks to you both for your assistance, as I think that is the likely answer.

I will now post on South Africa and see what happens.

Thanks again.

Hi Leeeeeese,

The William & Elizabeth Sibley that attended the wedding of John Reynolds in 1862 are unlikely to be the parents of George Sibley as William would have to be at least 96 years by then.

Although, it is possible that if the correct family was the one at Blyborough, then if son William, born 1801, happened to marry an Elizabeth, then he would be 61 years old and a possibility.

Don't have any other clues.

Peter

Looking for any details on Rosetta Ann TOLLEY and her ancestors. What I know so far is;

She married a Thomas Henry Prynn Ivey sometime between 1873 and 1883. Have been unable to find same on freebdm. They lived in South Africa at least in 1884, so not sure whether married in England or South Africa.

When she died in 1917 in South Africa, the Death Notice showed that she was born in Somerset East, she was 59 years, and he parents were deceased (no names). I have been unable to find her birth on freebdm and other sites.

I have most details from South Africa, but need any help on her family and background from Somerset.

Regards,

Peter
