Yorkshire (West Riding) / Beaumont of Ecclesfield
« on: Monday 02 April 12 15:29 BST (UK)  »
I have a William Beaumont who married Ann Batty at Ecclesfield in 1792, they had four children- John, Robert, Ann & Sarah between 1792 & 1805.
I can't find William or Ann anywhere after 1805 nor can I find their births. The IGI has William born Scholes in some member entries but I'm not sure if that's helpful or not. William was a miner, probably of iron.

Their son John was at Hoyland Common in 1841, also an iron miner but I have no idea where his parents or siblings got to.

Does anybody have any useful hints?

Cheshire Completed Lookup Requests / The Cheshire Sheaf. COMPLETED
« on: Thursday 23 February 12 13:13 GMT (UK)  »
Does anybody have any knowledge of the Cheshire Sheaf books? I am seeking two articles, numbers 4212 & 4514 but I don't know what volumes these would be in.

I am having no luck trying to search the library catalogues for them and since I don't know which volumes I require I am stuck.

Useful Links / Link: Our Weather in History
« on: Wednesday 22 February 12 15:30 GMT (UK)  »
I don't know if this appeals to anybody but myself  but this site

http://134.36.96.5/FMPro?-db=Hydrochronology.FP3&-lay=Layout%20%232&-format=search.htm&-view

has a database of historical weather events which can be searched by place name or by date.

Useful background information I think.

Ooops!! I have had to change the link to the full version, for some reason the shrunken version came up as an error.

The Common Room / Medieval Query
« on: Saturday 14 January 12 16:24 GMT (UK)  »
In about 1180-1190 the Norman Roger FitzAlured granted Stretton in Cheshire to Richard Starkey "to be held as freely as any of the said Richard's ancestors ever held the same". I take this to mean that Richards family had lived at Stretton for at least one generation prior to this time.

I now have a copy of a manuscript from 1170 of a grant by Roger FitzAlured to Adam de Dutton when he married Agnes, Roger's daughter.
In this he grants to Adam  "Richard of Stretton and all his children for ten marks of silver"

Can anybody explain what is going on here, other than slavery!

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Coley and Northowram
« on: Sunday 28 August 11 10:15 BST (UK)  »
In Pearson's Northowram book he says that "A considerable portion of Northowram township being in the Ecclesiastical division of Coley".

Does anybody know which portion? Or where I might find out?

I ask because I had possible family living in Northowram in 1641 who signed the Protestation at Coley rather than at Halifax.

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Burial-Norbron Kimberworth area
« on: Thursday 14 July 11 17:11 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I see a possible death for my John Norbron in the dec qtr of 1843 at Rotherham, his age would have been 52.

His family are in Kimberworth in 1851 but his burial doesn't seem to have been at St Thomas's.

Does anybody have any clues as to were he might be buried?

I think that his wife Ann died dec qtr 1868 Rotherham ( aged 77) but her burial is also not at Kimberworth.
