The Common Room / Re: Can anyone read latin?

Thanks Book, I think you are right & it was just written next to the wrong Mary....I was getting all excited then for a minute. It is a bit strange that the marriage I have for Mary and John Douglas happens at St Nicholas church on 31st Jan 1916, I will have to go & see if they had a second RC service.

Thanks again ;D

Hi,

Can anyone help me with my GGrandmothers baptism record? For some reason there is some writing in latin on the register (it's a catholic baptism) The first part is crossed out but the second seems to refer to her marriage to George Douglas in 1916, what really interests me is the crossed out part as the wording is the same as the second and if it is then it refers to a marriage noone knew about and may point towards my grandfathers unknown father (it is dated Feb 1911 & he was born in Jul). None of the other entries on the page have notations like this so it is a bit of a mystery as to why it's there.

All help is much appreciated.

Thanks Spikey, have discovered that CRU is the Civil Resettlement Unit. I'm not at home at the moment but will scan & post the section later.

World War Two / Help with war record please

Hi everyone,

I have just received my grandfathers war records and would like a little help deciphering them. The MOD sent a list of abbreviations but these are not on them

x (ii) list & x(iv) list
No 1 I.B.D.
No 1 C.R.U. /5 corps
granted S.P.P.
I.R.T.D. (or I.R.I.D)

I know he was wounded but there is no mention of what the wound was, it just states that he was transfered to a casualty clearing station then onto a general hospital. Is there anywhere I can find this information?

Thanks in advance for any help

Hi,

Thanks for your replies, to be honest I never thought of asking the neighbours but we now think that we have tracked her daughter down so my father is writing to her and hoping we have the right person :)

Thanks for the offer Dawn I will pm you just as soon as I dig out her date of birth (or contact my dad for the info..lol)
