England / cooke marrying Burge
« on: Tuesday 21 May 19 23:05 BST (UK)  »
Hello,my problem as follows.   In 1916 Mary Ann Cooke died in Aust. An obituary said she was born on 15.7.1818 In Oxfordshire, maiden surname Burge, married in 1835 to George Edward Cooke, and arrived in Aust in 1841 with 3 children.   Another obit says she was born in Yorkshire.  No parents names recorded in bdm index for her.  I cannot find them as passengers on a ship.  Cooke referred to as Edward George in all records in Aust except that obituary (98% sure I have the correct line).   No obituary when he died in 1875 but death index refers to his parents as Edward and Sarah.   12 children, including one called Edward George.   Edward George's (Jnr) obituary says he was born in England and arrived in 1841, but I find an Edward George born in 1838 to Edward G and Mary A in the Aust area they lived.   So lots of issues, and any help from England would be greatly appreciated

Thanks Bumblebee, I was hoping for a mother's maiden name of Edwards, and as it is not, you have put a stop to following an incorrect line.  Appreciate that you checked.  :)

There is a 1901 census in Durham for "Thomas William aged 32 born St Gust Cornwall; Margaret aged 33, Bertha 7 and Annie 4".    Could someone investigate this for me please?

Thank you all for the interest.  The details after marriage are well known to the family, but pre marriage the mystery.  Do remain hopeful, and appreciate everyone’s help and opinions. :)

Yes the current generation knows her life in Aust, just nothing before she married, nor her parents. Hence my throwing it out there to see if anyone could help.  As I have said there is very little to go on.  Thanks for the interest.

Yes, sorry, meant to type 1927.  I’m thinking if she didn’t know her mother’s name when she married, she may not have known exactly where she was born either.  Thanks anyway.
