Lancashire / John Holland and Hannah Lomas
« on: Friday 03 February 17 08:02 GMT (UK)  »
These couple married in Manchester on 1843.   1851 Manchester Census states John (born Cheshire) 26, Hannah (born Manchester) 22, children William,8, & John,3.  1861 Census says John 43, Hannah 32, William 17, John 13, Robert, Hannah, Jane, James & Elizabeth.   John's age vastly differs.   Does anyone think all 3 are the same family - I have nothing else to go on, and I am trying to backtrack from the William born c.1843.  Thank you

Having slept on this issue, desertion does seems the most likely. Rascal!  Will also go back & recheck the SA Simon as best I can as well in case he was also a bigamist!   And yes, I think a marriage transcript should give early details.  He did have a brother Michael because Michael is mentioned in their daughters death notice in 1910.    Thanks for everyone's interest.  :)

Thank you JM.  Everyone is working overtime for me and I do appreciate it.  Not sure about the names you have come up with JM.   Does anyone have access to the Catholic section of Waverley cemetery - perhaps names will show up in that as Kathleen was buried there?  :-\

And thank you Wivenhoe.  Randwick in 1925 & Mrs E has to be the right family.   South Australia, I don't think so, unless perhaps his father.   I had checked Trove and there is a Simon mentioned often during the same period my Simon is married and having children in NSW - so unless he was a sailor & leading a double life, a different man.   Thanks Ros also for continuing the query.  Yes that JS is not my fellow, mine was getting married in 1893, so at least 19-20 by then. There was a 22 year old in trouble for drunk & disorderly in Paddington about that time.   It is quite puzzling.   :)

Thank you also Merlin.  Desertion is interesting.  Couldn't open website, but no matter, because when daughter dies in 1910 the funeral notice reads "Mr & Mrs S Guinney" - perhaps indicating he is still with them.

Thank you Ros and Gerry.  Gerry, I think the Michael cabdriver is possibly a brother, because he is mentioned in the death notice for Simon's daughter, Kathleen.   Perhaps "S Guinney of Randwick"?  Ros, I think the marriage/divorce is unlikey as he would have been into his 60s when they married in 1940.  Also I think he is dead before daughter V.A. marries in 31, and certainly by time wife dead in 49.  There is another John Sinon with a brother Michael Thomas, and that is the one in the Probate advert - he died in about 1964 from memory.  That Michael T died in 1937 in Ryde and also appointed his brother JS as executor.  Thank you both for looking. :)

Australia / Guinney or Guirney or Guinnery

Hello all, I have bdm index stating Sinnon Guinney married Elizabeth Burns in Paddington in 1893.  Children: 1894 Elizabeth M Guinnery. 1896 Florence Guinney. 1898 Catherine F Guinney.  1902 Vera A Guinney. 1910 anor daughter Kathleen died.  Sinnon is spelt Simon for most of those births in Waverley & Balmain.  22/2/1949 Elizabeth Mary Guirney died and SMH notice states "relict of late Sinon J Guirney". When Vera married in 1931 the newspaper referred only to "Mrs E Guirney".   My ? is where did Sinnon/Sinon/Simon come from and die?  Any ideas would be appreciated.  I have checked & no war record, unless strange surname spelling.   Thank you.

So appreciate the great assistance.  I am wondering if Walter's father was may be a soldier (and had an affair with Christian) if there is no mention of Bake in Scotland.  I will search UK freebdm a bit further.  Walter called a daughter Christina, and another Augusta, which tie in with family names.   Thank you all. :)
