Yorkshire (East Riding & York) Lookup Requests / Re: 61 & 71 census lookup MEDCALF

Hi MaryA

Thanks for the 1871 for the STILLWELLS. I remember looking at them last year and decided she wasn't my Maria because she wasn't a SOLLITT on the marriage. I didn't realize she had married twice.

Will have to keep my eye on these boarders in the future.

Hi Mary A

Thanks for doing those lookups for me. I've just done some more checking, had an idea Maria may have married again. I have found her at Bradford in 1881 and she is a widow again. She married William STILLWELL the boarder that was with her on the 1861 census. I found their marriage June Q 1869 York and they have a daughter Maria STILLWELL born about 1863 in York. :o

Not sure what happened the other girls but George is married to a Mary A in 1881 spelling is METCALFE.

 :)

Robert and Maria MEDCALF, could be METCALF/METCALFE. I have them in the 1851 census at Wheldrake but can't find them on the 1881. Roberts parents are George & Barbara and are also living at Wheldrake. Barbara is still alive in 1881.

1851
MEDCALF Robert 24   b   Easingwold     Ag Lab
                Maria   21   b  Huttons Ambo
                Ann       1   b   Wheldrake

Thanks for any help.

Hi Dave,

Well thanks looking anyway. I did find a Mary BOSTON died Dec Q 1860 Melksham on the FreeBMD, no sign of a James though. The graveyard does look quite bare around the Davis stone.

Yep! it can get quite cool in peanut country. I live in one of the coldest places in Qld, usually around zero but warms up to a nice sunny day, about 20. But the big news is we had rain yesterday afternoon and last night.  :D

Ok, I'll brush up on my Lacock stuff.  :)

Hi Dave,

Thanks so much for doing that for me, very happy.  :D  I have been trying to figure Jane GODDARD out for soo long. I finally narrowed her down on the 1841 census at Hilmarton which seemed pretty close to Avebury too and it just had to be her. On the 1841 for West Kennet is
GODDARD Thomas   50   Ag Lab
                 Mary        11
                 Stephen   10
                 Elizabeth   5

No sign of the mother though but someone found Thomas on the 1851 census for me and she was there.

The other GODDARD family are most probably related, similar names and Mary Ann's husband must have died because she married William PEARCE in 1841.

PEARCE    William    25   Ag Lab
                 Mary        35
GODDARD Charles  15   Ag Lab
                 George   14  "     "
                 Stephen  11
                 Thomas    9
                 John         7
                 Henry       3

I did some checking on Avebury district and it seems like a very interesting place. I think I would love it. I also found a Wiltshire map so I think I have my bearings now and where it is in relation to Lacock. Looks like a hop, skip and a jump as the crow flies anyway.  Jane GODDARD married Abel HOOD in 1847 and they went to Wales around 1850. My great grandfather Stephen, was born in 1855 and came to Queensland around 1873.

Thanks again
Sandra  :)

Hi Pinetree,
I have some details on Edward SOLLITT though no connection to me at the present time. Just checked the 1851 census for Stillington H01072370
Looks like
SOLED? Thomas  Head Mar 40   Groom         Hutton Hambo
            Harriet   wife   Mar  39                   Barton-le-Street
            Sharlot   dau           21 Ourdoor Lab    "         "
            Elizabeth dau         16      "         "       Crambe
            Edward   son           5                       Stillington
            William    son           3                             "

1871    Gildersome
SOLLITT Edward  Head Mar  23   Coachman  Stillington
             Caroline  wife   Mar  22                     Huntington
             Thomas   son           10 mts               Guildersome

Children I had for Thomas & Harriet are:

1. Charlotte                           abt 1830
2. Mary                                  abt  1832
3. Elizabeth Hansele [c] 20th Apr 1835  Crambe
4. Thomas?                           abt 1839
5. Noah  ?                             abt 1852      Stillington

I'll check the 1841 census, see what I can find there.  :)

Hi Dave,

Thanks. I thought they would be fairly close. I've heard of the crop circles. Better go and check these places out some more then. Dunno if I like spooky  :)

If anyone is going to the records office I would love a look-up in the West Kennet, Avebury parish registers for a christening for Jane GODDARD born 1823, father is Thomas. Other children to Thomas are Mary 1829, Stephen 1830 & Elizabeth 1835.

Also looking for a marriage for Thomas GODDARD born about 1787 to Mary ?  born 1791,  from about 1810 to 1823. Mary was born at Overton so could be there.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Sandra
