Family History Beginners Board / What records do we trust?
« on: Monday 30 July 12 22:31 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I already know the answer to my question as I have just discovered a massive error in my research. It's my own stupid fault, through my inexperience.

I am finding so many different research sites and they all hold such a varied degree of information, accurate or not. I am paying what is (to me at least) a large sum of money a month to one particular site and yet they still don't hold all the information. I know that the best, most accurate route is to visit the records office myself, but I live a long distance from where my roots are and so it's not possible to do this on a regular basis.

I could buy the parish records,  but If I do can I really trust the information within?

I suppose I am just a little miffed. I was getting over confident that I was starting to get the hang of this, but obviously I am not! I've found this new record and my ancestors have now changed. Will I discover that this new one is also untrue?

I really love researching, but I think I'm trying to cover too much ground too quickly perhaps.

Sorry to bother you all. Just thought I'd share my frustration :-\

Hi,

Please could someone look for John Rudge born about 1803 in Halesowen.

I would like to know his date of birth and parents names if possible.

Also, can anyone advise where is the best, cheapest place to buy parish records?

Thank you

Family History Beginners Board / Betsy Lee from Birmingham
« on: Friday 27 July 12 20:45 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I have been researching for a couple of months now, so I am relatively inexperienced.
Please could you help me trace the parents of my GG-Grandmother?

Her name was Betsy (or Betsey) Lee and according to the census she was born in 1950 in Birmingham.

These are the records I have already,

Jul 1875 - Marriage to Edwin Guest (1855-1937)
Census 1881 - Hasbury, Worcs. Age 31
Census 1891 - Halesowen, Worcs. Age 41
Census 1901 - Halesowen, Worcs. Age 51
Census 1911 - Halesowen, Worcs. Age 61

I'm struggling to trace her parents as I cannot locate her on the 1961 census. I have found one record of a Betsy on the 1851 census, but how can I be confident it is her?

The only other bit of information I have is a very old Marriage certificate that was given to me by a member of my family.

It states:
Marriage Date 12th Sept 1815 at the Parish Church of Leonard, Shorditch, Middlsex.
Between James Lee & Mary Ann Parsons.
In the presence of William Loyall & George Henderick.

I don't know if they are related to my GG-Grandmother, but I assume so,

Any tips and help would be gratefully received.

Thank you

Tidgy

Hi All,

Sadly I don't know who these ladies are, but I would like to try to find out and I need to know the approx date of the photo.
Perhaps if it were cleaned up I may be able to cross reference the image to another.

Thank you.

Family History Beginners Board / Edward Henry Spindler
« on: Friday 13 July 12 13:18 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

I have recently started tracing my family tree and I am stuck.  I have the 1911 census record of Edward Henry Spindler who is German, living in Leamington Spa with his Wife and children. He is a Musical Director.

I am trying to find out where in Germany he came from so that I can trace further back. I managed to get a copy of the Marriage certificate and it states that his father was called Fred Spindler (A Musician). They were living in the UK when they married though so I am no further forward.

I have searched immigration and travelling records, but cannot find him mentioned anywhere.

Is anyone able to offer advice or help please?
Thank you.
