Sarah Jamieson's children were in the Dalry & Kilbirnie area until they died. Robert Riddet looks to have died in 1876. Sarah Jamieson/Riddet probably died pre. 1855. They were all alive and in the area when William Jamieson died - good possibility one of them was the informant on his death cerificate.

It makes you pay for 30 credits though which I don't need and I have wasted a lot of money on this website in the past.  Why they can't have had a monthly subscription like other sites.

I'm afraid to access William Jamieson's death certificate to see what information has been given by the informant of his death, someone has to buy credits.

His death certificate, may have his parents' names recorded, if the informant knew that info.

Lanarkshire / Re: Marriage in Barony, Lanarkshire, Scotland
« on: Thursday 27 July 23 21:46 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

The original record of this marriage can be viewed on Scotland's People. www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

The marriage is actually registered in the old parish records of the Church of Scotland in Barony parish, not the Roman Catholic records.

Credits need to be purchased in order to access this  - but be aware , these records can often just have the bride and groom's name and not much else.

Scotland / Re: My Grandmother was a servant in Scotland

Hi - there is no option to search the 1921 Census using place of birth on Scotland's People.

There are 9 Annie Morris aged between 19-22 on the Census. Two have middle initials. Annie B and Annie R. One is an Annie Jane Morris.
I looked at the ref. no for each Annie Morris.

Then, searching the name Morris in each area for all 9 women - 6 of the Annie Morris appeared to be living with other people called Morris (they all shared the same ref).
Three, listed below, do not appear to be living with anyone called Morris.

Hi,

There is a marriage between James Kelly, Co. Tyrone and Lewinda McFadyan, Co. Armagh on 9th Nov 1853 at St.Joseph's RC Church in Kilmarnock.
They were married in the presence of Daniel Griffin.
Scotland's People have recorded the bride as Lewinda but looking at the original document the name could be a scrawled Lucinda - not a million miles away phonetically from Lusanda.

Thanks Monica and GR2-

Maybe I'll never know for certain what a stearer was -I suppose it may have been a local term for a particular occupation too.

Thank you, AlanBoyd, Monica, Ian, GR2, Mike and Still Looking for the replies.
I've been out all day and had no internet signal  ::)

Steamer could be a possibilty. As could calico print stearer. Sheep shearer I'm not so sure about.
Stear/Steer is the Scots for stir....so a stearer could potentially stir something??

The girl is Elizabeth Holland aged 13 at Riccarton. Her 11 year old brother Thomas is also a stearer.
There are other stearers among their neighbours and tearers too.

Ayrshire / What Occupation was a Stearer?
« on: Saturday 01 July 23 07:55 BST (UK)  »
Good morning,

I'm researching family in Kilmarnock, in the Riccarton district on the 1851 Census and have noticed several family members, some are young girls, and people at neighbouring addresses recorded as being a 'Stearer'.

Anyone any idea what this could be? I know the area had textile and shoe-making connections and wonder if a 'Stearer' could be connected to either.

Thanks in advance,

Looby :)
