Yes I noticed that and like you could find no birth record - so no wiser.

2
Are they the ones with daughter Lily born 1895/6? Have you found her birth to check for mother’s name?

UK Calendar of Prisoners, 1868-1929 (Anc)

Trial date 28th August 1889, Liverpool
George Mansfield (no aliases or previous) and Frances Mansfield bracketed together

There is this one which I hadn’t noticed before - not sure if it is our Frances - she was imprisoned earlier in the year

Trial date 17th October 1889, Chester
Frances Mansfield alias Sawyers - not guilty
Previous Liverpool 1877 as Frances Sayers

With regard to the witnesses, the paris( record had squiggly letters for the first one - I thought it might have been Jcb - Jacob- James but that is a bit of a wild guess.

1881 4065 /65/24
9, Barnfold, Oldham
Jas. Owens and Catherine with several children including Ellen, 12 yrs.

1891 3299/14
The family (no Ellen) are living at 3, Morgan Square, so that looks positive for Ellen.

I found the film at the library but not much help, really.
It says John was the son of James and Margaret but that is all I could see - it’s very feint.

This forum is, I think, for people willing to visit the Records Office to look but I may be wrong.
The other Lancashire boards are for general queries where everyone has a search around.
The moderator will set you right and transfer your posts if necessary with your own query title.
I am in Oldham and have been trying to find out about the parish records. Our local archives centre is in the process of moving and I can’t see online if film of St Pat’s marriages is held locally. I have accessed other Catholic records there in the past. I will ask at our library. I am going there later for books!
The parish record may show a bit more detail than the civil record.

This shows they are at Lancashire R O.

Yes, I realised that.
However, I doubt that  the George with all the aliases is your George.
In the prison records that you found were there indicators that crimes were committed by George Mansfield with Alice  ?

I'm not sure if the one I found was the same man .

Just an afterthought could Alice have used surname WALTON on babies birth ironically taken from the name of the prison she' d stayed in previously .

Thanks again .

In 1889, there is a record where George Mansfield and Frances Mansfield are bracketed together. Frances has several previous notes and using the name Alice Barrow.
Both charged with stealing several items, the property of Bridget Foy and Frances further charged with stealing the property of Joseph Parry.
George looks to have pleaded not guilty and was discharged. (I think that’s how it reads).

It might be better if you get your enquiry transferred to the Lancashire board rather than here.
