Denbighshire / Hughes family Llangernyw, Llanrwst and surroundings
« on: Friday 04 November 05 20:44 GMT (UK)  »
Any help appreciated  thankyou--
especially 1841 census/ church records  as I have all other census details.
Robert Hughes (Roberts Hughes in 1851 census) is an agricultural servant 1851 to his uncle:
1851 - Bodrach
Morris Hughes born 1806, Llanrwst. Farmer of 95 acres --  Morris moves around a bit after that in other censuses. Other Hughes around but unsure if they are relatives.
Robert Hughes was born abt 1828 Llangernyw, Denbighshire.
I have later details on Robert but his parental details would be appreciated.
Thanks

Merionethshire / help re Hughes and Williams Ffestiniog
« on: Thursday 03 November 05 23:26 GMT (UK)  »
Hello everyone,
I am posting this in the hope that someone out there may have some connections!
Marriage:
1.5.1883 Ffestioniog - William Hughes, aged 20 yrs and Jane Williams aged 21 yrs.
The couple had a son Robert in 1884 and then emigrated to USA.
The problem is that Jane's father is given as William Williams on her death certificate in 1948; but as Robert Williams deceased in 1883 on her marriage.
Witnesses to marriage: Catherine Williams and William Williams. We have William Hughes and family in census and are sure about him.
Jane's address at marriage is Market Square, Ffestiniog. Can't find her at this address in 1881 - but she may be a servant  (there are two who fit) and in other censuses I can't find a Robert (father)  to match Jane (daughter). I can find an Ellis Williams married to a Cathrine with children including Jane (age would fit) and a Cathrine but not sure - wonder if I'm going on a wild goose chase then...
Can anyone advise/ help or hopefully identify please?
Thanks

Denbighshire / place name similar to Llagemyn
« on: Thursday 20 October 05 22:03 BST (UK)  »
I am looking at a family Robert Hughes and Laura Hughes (1861- 1891) living in Festiniog. Her birthplace is listed as Dolwyddelan, Caernarvonshire which I can find but his has been transcribed (hard to read on census) as Llangemyn Denbighshire but I can't find this place. Has anyone any idea what it could be please?
Thanks Heywood

The Lighter Side / deciphering cause of death
« on: Wednesday 19 October 05 20:50 BST (UK)  »
Sorry if this is in the wrong forum- not sure where it should be! Can anyone please read and interpret the bit between Measles and Bronchitis. It is with reference to the death of a 1 year old child.
I am trying to put a jpg on and have followed the instructions found elsewhere on this site but cannot do this - so am attaching it. I do hope it works.
Thanks

Lancashire Completed Lookup Requests / exchange district liverpool 1851-1871
« on: Sunday 09 October 05 01:03 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone help please? I am trying to help a contact in USA. I have found his family:
1861 Liverpool census Exchange district
47 Hodson Street (looks like that -could be Hudson Street)
Patrick Gavin 30 yrs born Ireland ; Sabina Gavin 23 Ireland ; Daniel 9 yrs born Liverpool; Mary Ann 5 yrs  born L'pool; Bridget 2 yrs born L'pool
Anthony Callaghan 30 yrs boarder  born Ireland
Michael Callaghan  37 yrs  boarder

1871same address - much fainter and harder to read and ltranscribed as 'Goven' but handwritten is clear to see is Gavin
I am  looking for: a possible entry in 1851 census and a  marriage - Patrick Gavan and Sarah Joyce and the birth/ baptism records of the children.
I have tried FreeBMD and some names in 1837 online with no success - quite a few Gavan (and variations) - with possible dates but not accurate enough.
Does anyone know the name of the Catholic church in that area for possible baptisms or can anyone suggest anything else?
Many thanks

Mayo / Goldens of Rathlacken and Duffy
« on: Thursday 11 August 05 21:34 BST (UK)  »
I realise that my previous posting- subject  'Carrowmore-Lacken/ Kilcummin' could be misleading - unless of course you know the area. I am really after any information about the name Golden/ Goldrick of Rathlacken please. I do have Duffy interests too in the same general area.
Thanks

Staffordshire / Whitehouse, Tipton - any information
« on: Sunday 07 August 05 22:51 BST (UK)  »
Looking for any information on the family of William and Hannah Whitehouse.
I have information from censuses but not 1861. I think William might have died by then.
On a birth certificate I have, Hannah is named:
Hannah Whitehouse, late Humphries, formerly Gorsman.
I'm not sure but wonder if she was born Humphries and married Gorsman- but could that have been the other way round?
They were living in both West Bromwich and Tipton at various times and Hannah is listed as being born in Birmingham.
