The Common Room / Re: The paper trail vs family stories vs DNA?

This match could be descended from Tom Lockwood Gilleard's half-siblings (whose father was Philip), and the shared DNA could be from Tom's mother.

Is your father Tom Lockwood Gilleard's descendant?

The match could be via a Gilleard half-sibling of your ancestor couldn't it, but related via May Ann Fisher?

Have you thought about uploading to Gedmatch.  You might get some more matches there and possibly the Gilleard match is there as well.

Kerry / Still deaths from influenza in November 1919 in Annascaul
« on: Friday 09 September 16 21:53 BST (UK)  »
I'm browsing the records but what struck me about these 8 deaths is that 3 are from influenza, an entire year after the Spanish flu epidemic began.

There are influenza deaths from 1918 on this page though

London and Middlesex / Re: Grave - John Cox at Highgate Cemetery, St. James, St. Pancras

The east side of the cemetery and then through Hampstead Heath was my shortcut to work when I lived in Archway and worked at Belsize Park.  It was summer and a very nice way to start the day.  I'd catch the Hopper bus home as that was uphill.

My suggestion would be to also upload your data to Gedmatch.  It has some good tools for analysing where you match on segments.  In general I have had a better reply rate from people on Gedmatch, as it is more likely to have people who are into genealogy.

Ancestry recently made some changes to their chip so results from kits that were purchased later than about May 2016 can't be transferred to FtDNA.

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Re: Many Questions About DNA Testing
« on: Saturday 03 September 16 00:01 BST (UK)  »

My priority is now my grandparents...

That's an excellent idea.  We've had to test a few people to try to find out more about a gt-grandfather.  If any of the grandparents were still alive this would be much simpler and cheaper.

It sounds as if they haven't yet opened your package and logged it into the system yet, but you do know from tracking that it is there.

They will send an e-mail to say the kit has been received.  You will receive another when it has been batched with a batch number, and a date range of when to expect results.   You will receive an e-mail once the results are ready, but some results might be visible before then.   I only know this as I was browsing matches for a relative one evening, made myself a cup of tea, refreshed the screen and another relative whose kit I manage was now there as a match.  When I logged into her kit all her matches were there but it wasn't until the following day that the My Origins was visible and that's when the e-mail arrived to say the kit was completed.

On their forums (it is on a drop down menu under Resources) there is a thread about Current FF batch which might give you an idea of where they are up to.  Unfortunately those with delayed kits are more likely to post than someone whose results came back early, so the thread is quite negative.
