Yorkshire (North Riding) / Alexander Dundas 1760 Yorkshire
« on: Saturday 10 September 22 17:23 BST (UK)  »
Hi there,
I am trying to trace the origins of Alexander Dundas. He was born about 1760 in Yorkshire. He married Ann Richardson in 1779 in Wykeham and had their first daughter Elizabeth in the same place and same year.
I can't find any parents for Alexander or any siblings.
I'm assuming with a name like Dundas he could have come from Scotland.
Any help/ideas would be much appreciated.
Thank you so much

The Common Room / Birth record for British subject born in Spain in 1850s
« on: Thursday 11 February 21 17:10 GMT (UK)  »
Hi there,
One of my ancestors was born in Spain in 1853 (exact date from 1939 census).  His father was working out there. They were all British subjects. I have looked for a birth certificate but can't find one. Wouldn't he still have one even if he was born abroad?
Any reason he wouldn't?
Any ideas would be most welcome
Thank you

Hi there,
I recently got in contact with a cousin where we share 6th great grandparents. We have both done our DNA through Ancestry yet Ancestry says we are not a DNA match. Could we still be related even though she didn't come up as a match?

Thank you very much

Hi there,
I have a DNA match who I share 215 cm with and the website says we are probably 2nd cousins. Is it possible to share that much cm but be related further back? I know all my 2nd cousins so am very confused by it. My family is not huge.
I have known them to say I only share a tiny amount of cm with a closer match, just wondering if it worked the other way round.
Thank you

Cornwall / Nicholas Truscott 1573 Cornwall
« on: Thursday 24 December 20 11:24 GMT (UK)  »
Hi there,
I am trying to find the parents of Nicholas Truscott born about 1573. He married Alison Skantibew. They had a son Nicholas christened in 1604 in Lanreath, Cornwall.  I don't have access to Ancestry trees to check if anyone has a tree on him. I was wondering if anyone could find his parents.
Any help would be hugely appreciated.

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / My living DNA
« on: Saturday 05 December 20 13:55 GMT (UK)  »
Hi there,
Has anyone uploaded their DNA to My Living DNA?
I put mine on there and got 200 or so matches one of whom is a second cousin. I messaged them on the chat thing but wondered if there was another way to contact them on there. I have no idea how we are related and I thought I knew all of my 2nd cousins. There are no family trees on there (unless I'm missing something) so what am I supposed to do with all the matches especially if they don't reply.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hi there,
Uploaded my DNA to My Heritage and i can do certain things but it says I need to pay £35 to unlock more. Is it worth the money?
I'm assuming to guess access to trees and to see ethnicity. Are there any other features I'm missing out on?
Thank you very much

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Guidance on how to understand Gedmatch
« on: Sunday 22 November 20 13:20 GMT (UK)  »
Hi there,
I just downloaded my DNA to Gedmatch. Am trying to understand the Admixture heritage. What do all the graphs means? Am I really a small percentage Siberian and Baltic?
Does anyone know of any good guides or blogs that explain it all? And what all the different areas are?
Thank you for your help

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Shared matches feature on Ancestry
« on: Tuesday 10 November 20 17:39 GMT (UK)  »
Hi there
I have just discovered the shared matches feature on Ancestry when you click on a match. Am I right in thinking that the list of names that appear are people that both of us share DNA with?
If that's the case why have I got matches who don't match with anyone else despite them being on the same branch?
I'm confused.
