On a marriage index, I found the reference to the marriage of Sara(h) Belk to William Slack in 1802, Marylebone.

I would like a lookup please for the full entry, particularly for the names of witnesses, date and the status of the bride and groom if possible.

Thank you, Gazania

The Common Room / Big Thank you to Rootschatters - Wareham/Belk breakthrough
« on: Thursday 14 February 13 00:29 GMT (UK)  »
I wish to thank my fellow Rootschatters who have always been here to answer/pose questions and generously help out.  Your help has led to a breakthrough after 20 years of searching my Wareham (Waram, Wharam) family.

I was stuck with my earliest confirmed ancestor, William W#, grocer of Esher (SRY), who was born somewhere  sometime about 1764. There were many Warehams in the London area & many called William but none matched up. And there was a preponderance of Warehams in the Dorset area. He has many descendants scattered all over. The main & unlikely family story passed down is that we were related to Archbishop Warham, the Archbishop of Canterbury when Henry 8th was a child. Hardly, as he was Catholic and supposedly celibate.

Then with help from Rootschatters I followed up some clues mainly using wills especially of the unmarried who often mention many names of relatives.  Thankfully I came across an "Uncle William Belk" mentioned in two wills linked to William of Esher.  Thus after searching using lots of wild cards for the spelling of Belk, I found  William of Esher was born in Tickhill, Yorkshire to John Waram and Ann Belk.  Thank you, Rootschatters! London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Burial lookup - William BELK
« on: Wednesday 13 February 13 04:35 GMT (UK)  »
Could I please have lookup for the death/burial for William BELK mostly for the years 1779-1780.

BELK's will is dated 16 Nov 1779 and was probated 5 Aug 1780. I have reports from the London Gazette that he died soon after making his will. He stated in his will that he was a victualler of Saint Marylebone.  (I have searched FindMyPast)

With a name like BELK, mistranscriptions could happen.  Thanks, Gazania

Technical Help / Access problem National Archives
« on: Wednesday 23 January 13 23:29 GMT (UK)  »
Any suggestions on how to obtain a copy of a PCC will dated 1834 other than use the National Archives online.

It seems that the security on my computer interfers with purchasing & downloading from the NA online.  (I live in OZ but have no problems on other sites)  The first time the NA tech support emailed me my request.  Now my credit card people refuse to authorise.  The security setting on my computer is outside my control.

I do live close to a LDS site & could order the microfilm, but I am wondering if there is another way as I am a bit housebound to order a copy.  Just had a thought, I could use a relative's computer.  Anyway, I am still open to suggestions.  Thanks Gazania

Carmarthenshire / Debtors prison records
« on: Wednesday 10 October 12 10:50 BST (UK)  »
In the 1841 census, Hannah Harry, publican, was an inmate of the Debtors Prison, Carmarthen.
According to Pigots directory of 1844 and the 1851 census, Hannah Harry was the publican of the Fountain Inn, Thomas St., Llanelly.

Where can I find any records concerning Hannah's admission to the Debtors Prison?

Thank you, Gazania

Hi,

I need some help, please, in finding the family of James LINE born somewhere 1760-1770+.  On James's Apprentice Indenture record dated London, 1785, his father's name was given as William, butcher, of Amersham, Bucks.  I would also like to know about his parents' marriage & death, and his siblings if possible.  Thank you, Gazania
