Sligo / Thomas Kilmartin of Tubbercurry
« on: Monday 03 March 14 00:38 GMT (UK)  »
Hello I am trying to find some information on Thomas Kilmartin of Tubbercurry I am not sure if this is the right spelling as I have seen it spelt Tobercurry as well.
Thomas Kilmartin was born about 1857 he seems to have left Ireland sometime before 1890 and ended up in Manchester where he died in 1933 according to his marriage certificate his father was James Kilmartin occupation Farmer, the certificate gives no details of his mother.
thank you

Gloucestershire Lookup Requests / Re: Marriage Look up in Bristol please

Completed
Thankyou very much Sue for the look up on Emma Stratton's marriage, the info has turned out to be very useful, I was 95% sure that Emma belonged to our family, but to convince me I needed her father Thomas Stratton to be a Sailer/Mariner.
Once again thank you very much.

Hello I was wondering if some one who may have a few moments to spare at the Bristol Record Office could look up some marriage details for me.
The marriage is that of Emma Stratton and Robert Long and took place on 25 December 1841 at St Phillip and Jacob, Emma's father's name was Thomas Stratton, I would be very interested if some one could tell me what Thomas Stratton's occupation was, whether he was deceased or not ( bit of a long shot, but I believe it was sometimes recorded ) and the names of a witnesses.
Thanks very much

The Common Room / Re: Where is Bristol

Thanks to every one for your answers, sounds like just typing in Bristol is the best way to go.
My ancestors seem to come from the St James area in the late 1700s and early 1800s.
Thanks

Hi Mike
sorry in taking so long in getting back to you, I have not come across any of the names that your have mentioned except for Pearse, but they come in at a latter time, Edward Manley the son of Edward Manley and Joan Churley married a Ann Perry Pearse who was born about 1750 I think she was from Sidbury and that she was the dau of a John Pearse, after Edward died she remarried a Joseph Cook in 1786 at Honiton she died 20/06/1823.
The other Pearse was Sarah Pearse ( my 4 great Grandmother ) was from Sidbury and was b in 1779 she died at Sidbury and was buried there on the 15/02/1843 she was married to Robert Manley son of Henry Churley Manley.
As I said in my earlier reply Henry Manley who married Joan Gervis and the Edward Manley who married Joan Churley were brothers.
They were the sons of Robert Manley and Joan Churley this was a large family of 12 children  the family as far as I know looked something like this

Robert Manley of Hemyock married 16/08/1700 at Uffculme to Joan Churley
bap 18/03/1670/1 at Hemyock
bur 14/04/1747 at Hemyock                 bur 04/01/1759
occupation Yeoman and Gentleman of Windsor Farm
son of Robert Manley and Dorothy Manley

1.   Robert   bap 22/12/1701 bur 22/05/1741
2.   Henry                   bap 05/01/1704 bur 01/05/1775
3.   Nicholas   bap 12/06/1706 bur 21/05/1784

6.   William   bap 21/06/1712 bur 18/12/1740
7.   Elizabeth    bap 28/08/1714
8.   Joan      bap 28/08/1714 bur 03/09/1749 unmarried
9.   Patience   bap 16/10/1717 bur 30/11/1759
10. Edward   bap 09/09/1721 bur 11/03/1785
11. Eleanor   bap 04/08/1724
12. Mary                   bap 29/12/1727 bur 22/02/1794

Dorothy married 07/01/1744 to Thomas Osmund
Elizabeth married 14/02/1740 at St Mary Magdelene Taunton Somerset to Leonard Tratt or Trott
Patience married Jonathon Waldron
Eleanor married 01/09/1760 William Churchill

Henry and Edward were the only sons of this family to marry.
I must admit I was not aware of a Robert Manley being a Mayor of Taunton and I would be very interested knowing a bit more of what became of Thomas Darch and his family once they went to Philadelphia.
once again in taking so long to reply

Back to Henry of Ballyhannon
Seagoe Cemetery  first is  hard to read, I think this is correct

Erected by Simon Somerville

Ballyhanon? in affectionate remembrance of his mother Eleanor Somerville who departed this life May 185(8?) I think that would be May 1853 as Henry married Caroline Brown in 1854

I found a Pierce Somerville dying at Leeds in 1862 aged about 57 I think he is the father of Sloan and Youngson, I found Pierce in the 1861 census he gave his occupation as a Glass Merchant, also found him in the 1851 census giving his occupation as a bottle merchant he was living in Leeds in 1851 and 1861 as lodger.
