Hi there tend to agree that she would seem quite old in her 50's to be having the last three children so yes I think Richard may have had another wife called Elizabeth. Its a problem sorting out the records when they tended to have the same family names. In my husbands family the names continue ie Tom, Ann Richard ,Jane, Martha, Sarah to this present day. Are your family still in the Shropshire area? My husbands family moved in the 1800's to Newport in S Wales and then to Sheffield for work. Please keep in touch and I will try to keep searching too ,hopefully we can sort out the mystery! I have found some records back to a John Colley born 1657 in Stoke on Tern who married an Ann and had a big family with all the names used in later lines but I need perhaps another 2 generations in between to try to match them up to ours. Not quite the correct way to work back to front? I have made a note as they may be use full at a later date. Cheers for now.

I have Elizabeth died 1840 Wellington Shropshire Jan/March qtr ref18/170and husband Richard died July 1856 buried St Marks church Pensett (gravestone)think he was living at Shutt End Kingswinford and was a stone miner. Are you descended from Richard born 1794 and Catherine Purcell? My husband descends from their son John born 1824 Dawley Magna and his wife Jane Owen. Their son Thomas born 1844 married Maria Jones who had three children dying in childbirth with the third child. their son John Frederick Walter(depending what day it was he kept changing his name)was my husband also Tom's Grandfather. When Maria Jones died Thomas married again to Emma Tripass and had 7 more children. Would be interested to hear where your line fit into this tree Many Thanks Skala.

Richard Colley bapt 16/2/1794 ,son of Richard Colley and Elizabeth Chalonia married Catherine Purcell 9/6/1818 in Dawley Magna. They had 4 children Martha b 1819,Thomas born 1821,John born 1824 and Samuel born 1828 all in Dawley Magna.John is my husbands direct ancestor. From this time the family seem to stay in the Dawley area for a couple of generations. In 1841 they live at Langley Row Dawley. In 1851 they live at Well lane Dawley.By 1871 it would appear that Catherine is a widow and living with son Samuel (who is unmarried) in Rednal Lane Dawley.By 1881 Catherine is also dead

Doing research on the Quaker Meeting house and subsequent Methodist chapel that was in Chapel Yard off High Street Dronfield.Any information on this early history would be appreciated It was sold by the Methodists in and around 1872 and was purchased by a George Davidson. I don't know if he resided there it being made into 2 dwelling houses no 3 and 4 Chapel Yard.Think he may have rented it out and used it as collateral. Would appreciate any information and who was living there in 1881.1891 1901and 1911 if this is possible. Many Thanks.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / George Shaw born 6/6/1790 Rotherham
« on: Wednesday 22 February 17 16:22 GMT (UK)  »
Looking for the family and wife  of George Shaw born 1790 in Rotherham. He was the son of Joseph Shaw and Mary?. Could she be Mary Axe? I have one child John Shaw born to Joseph Shaw and Mary Axe 1792 in Rotherham married to an Elizabeth? They are my Ancestors. I think there may have been another child Ann born 1795 in Rotherham. I am very confused with all these Shaws in and around Swinton ,Rotherham and Mexborough. Joseph Shaw the father was a Waterman and I think John was also working on the canal .He was a Boat Owner.I had followed another George who was born in 1815 and Master of a vessel on the canal but realised he was born too late to be the son of Joseph and Mary Axe .Would appreciate any help on the family and also if anyone has information on the canal workers in and around Swinton. Thank You
