I found a John Shinglar born in Prees, Shropshire, Aug 2 1818 to a Thomas and Mary sorry I meant Elizabeth.

Shinglar = Sinclair possibly. Can't find any others close that are in Prees in that same time period.  I'm just not up to paying for the actual record right now though.

Thanks for letting me know - see you had already found the same birth entry  :)

Thank you so much and so sorry for not updating this thread to let you know.  Definitely my bad.  ::)

Well done on the marriage  :)

Glad it's all coming together for you  ;D

It's never ending, isn't it?  I'm just happy to finally get through the Sinclair roadblock.  I'm going to the UK in the fall and I'm thinking about spending a couple days in Liverpool to see where my family lived. It is nice to have church and a neighbourhood now, even if the houses are probably long gone.

I'm SOOO excited!  Finally to have a maiden name and VERY likely family.

Thank you so much for your help.  I had tried a number of Sinclair spellings but hadn't tried that one.  :)

That's great - I didn't know about that site - thanks for the link!

So it possibly confirms George and Mary, but not Joseph and John.

As for Elizabeth Sinclair, I did some more searching on the site and found an Elizabeth born in Holywell, Wales to mom (last name Davies) in 1844 too.  (I do know mom (Mary____) was born in Denbighshire, Wales)

Unfortunately this possible Elizabeth Sinclair/Davies is 4 years too old to be mine. I know the census records can be out a bit but 1851 says she was 3 (not 7) and 1861 says she was 13 (not 17).  Argh....

I guess it's possible that the had a child, Elizabeth, in 1844.  She died.  And they had another daughter around 1848 and named her Elizabeth as well?  And maybe her mom's maiden name isn't showing on the birth certificate?

Or maybe she had a different mother, who died, and dad remarried between 1848-1851?

The 1851 census has mom named Margaret, (born in Denbighshire) and 1861/1871 censuses have her name as Mary, (also born in Denbighshire).

I'm looking for birth record of my GGGrandmother, Elizabeth Jane Sinclair.

Her parents were John and Mary Sinclair, married around 1844.
Born about 1848, in Sefton/Sephton.  Lived in and around Aigburth until she went to Victoria BC in 1870 on the Bride Ship Alpha.

There are census records for the family in 1851 (Aigburth Vale), 1861 (Garston) , and 1871 (Aigburth Hall Road). All 3 census records say she was born in Sefton (Sephton).

Siblings on census are George (1851, Birkenhead), Joseph 1854 and 1864, both born in Shawbury or Shrewsbury, Shropshire), and Mary 1859, Ruthin North Wales) It looks like the family moved around a lot as her siblings were born in a number of different places according to the census.

The only online birth record I can find is in Preston, Lancashire - an Elizabeth Sinclair born 1848, to parents John Sinclair and Mary Hill but I don't think this is the right family because there are census records that indicate this famly stayed in the Preston area (also had different siblings, that Elizabeth marries someone else etc)

I am really curious about the poster on another thread who mentioned finding an Elizabeth SINCLAIR living on a boat in Garston at age 13 in 1861.  Wondering if it's my Elizabeth and if the poster has a a link or any other information to share. Answered via PM.  Not on a boat.

I've searched as many lancs church records for Sefton and surrounding parishes as I can find online but to no avail.

Also looking for passenger list for the Norwegian bark/barque "Alpha" which left Liverpool on Jan 10 1870 and arrived in Victoria BC on Jun 14 1870. Captain Neilson. I had seen a list at one point but cannot find it now for the life of me.

Thanks for any help.

Can in pipe in with a related question?

I'm looking for birth record of my GGGrandmother, Elizabeth Sinclair.

She was born around 1848 and her marriage record (in Victoria BC) says she was from Aigburth.

With thanks to a few posters, I have now found her maiden name and birth records for several of the kids.  I have also started a new thread here. So sorry for not updating this thread to let you know.
