Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Re: Date for this wedding please
« on: Monday 01 January 24 21:38 GMT (UK)  »
I think 1930s too, possibly later 1930s. Internet searches show similar styles of wedding attire from the 30s.

I originally thought 40s because it doesn’t look like the typical 30s women’s clothing, but 40s didn’t seem quite right either.

I hope you can work out who they are Mike.  :)

Added: further image checking shows some 40s weddings which look similar as well. Though only the lapels are showing, the women’s coats back left in your photo have a 40s look to them.

It’s been years, but I must have enabled notifications though I didn’t contribute to the thread. Well done for finding the address after all these years. It just goes to show that oersistance and revisiting old queries, can be worthwhile. A good result.  :)

Family History Beginners Board / Re: Conway-help

To answer your question, if you want to know more about your grandfather and his family history, of course you should keep digging.

You say Hugh was born in the 1920s. The most recent census available to view is 1921. I may have misunderstood, but are you saying you have found Hugh on the census, or are you referring to another possible family member?

For someone who has only been tracing their family history for two days you’ve done well to get back to 1400 on one of your lines.   ;)

As you would refer to your wife as your ex wife after you divorce, wouldn’t it follow that John would be your ex brother in law, and Gillian your ex niece?  :)

Trystan, I don’t think any of us take the site, or what you and Sarah do, for granted, but it is good to hear about some of the challenges that you have had to keep the site running, and makes is appreciate it all even more.

Happy 20th and Happy New Year.  :)

Best wishes for the New Year to everyone. Hope 2024 is kind to you all.

Christmas was very quiet here. As my daughter had covid we didn’t attend our usual family lunch but as luck would have it, she tested negative on Christmas (mid) day so we were able to enjoy a scaled down version of Christmas dinner., as I had most of the ingredients and had done some preparation days earlier.

Much hot, humid, stormy weather hereabouts, with lightning and thunder most days, and some destruction in some areas. Some loss of life, in most cases due to unnecessary risk taking.

Stay safe.

Don’t focus too much on trying to match up your ethnic percentages with your nown ancestors ormpaper trail. It could end ip sending you in the wrong direction. Ethic oercentages are nothing more than a rough guide, and subject to change over time.

KGarrad will be able to confirm (or not) but I don’t think that anyone leaving France to go to England woild travel via the Isle of Man. Channel Islands, yes.

You obviously already have some knowledge of your family history, but it is not clear how much you know from what you have told us here. I would suggest putting the ethnicity estimates aside and concentrate on paper research and looking at your DNA matches to find connections. Hopefully some of the ethnicity percentages will become clearer as you expand your tree.

I think referring to a good map can be very useful when researching family history.

Good luck.
