I just noticed that in 1901 census at Moreton House there are only four female servants  beside the Adams family.  No mention of a groom or servant lad.

The Red House  is very like the main house in the picture but  the side wings do not fit.

It was built in 1841 which  might be helpful if we have to start looking again.

There is a Cecily Janet Adams  single daughter aged 33 living at Moreton House in 1901

Might this be CJA?

Lancashire / Re: John Parker/ Margaret Hargr(e)aves

For the benefit of anyone else researching this marriage, this is an error  on the IGI

I was visiting Lancashire last week and popped into Accrington Local History Library. There is no such marriage in Altham  but I eventually found it in Accrington itself - same people and date. at St James'.
The register says with the "permission of parents" so that gives me a better idea of Peggy's date of birth.

I shall have to wait for another visit to Lancs to get any further, as the IGI is obviously unreliable in this instance.

 Hi

Thanks very much for the information.

Does anyone know if Altham is a centre for calico printing or if not where would the nearest places  John Parker might have worked?

Lancashire / John Parker/ Margaret Hargr(e)aves
« on: Sunday 10 August 08 09:57 BST (UK)  »
Hi

This is a complete shot in the dark. I am looking for the marriage about 1814,  of John Parker (Born abt 1793) and Margaret Hargreaves

My g g grandmother Isabella Parker was living in Ruthven, Tibbermore, Perthshire, Scotland  in 1841. but was born in England abt 1822.

1841  Census Ruthvenfield
John Parker 45                      They are all born in England There is also a John Parker 20 b England living nearby with his family.
Catherine Parker 25
Jane Parker 20
Isabella Parker 20

Isabella died in the US but from Catherine and Jane's death certs in Scotland, I know their Father was
John Parker print block cutter and their Mother Margaret Hargr(e)aves.           I can't find  either John Parker's deaths.

Any ideas where I go next? I chose Lancashire because Hargreaves is a local name and the family all worked in the calico print business (and I had to start somewhere).

Any ideas gratefully received

Barbara
