Only thing I can suggest is to get one on Ebenezer/Mary's children birth cert and try to work out the marriage from the female side.

Don't know for certain, but I think it might be similar to "Reading of Banns"

Thought for you idrm.

If Emma and Thomas Davies's marriage was registered in Haverfordwest Q4 1878, why on the 1901 and 1891 census is their eldest daughter's (Mary A) birth year given as 1877?

This might be a completely blind alley. I know she was not born in Neath but....

1851 England

David Truss, Head, 50, Farm Laborer, Ashley, Wilts
Esther Boxwell Truss, 45, School mistress, Castle Combe
James, son, 17, Rodmartin Glos.
John, son, 12, Rodmartin
Mary, dau, 21 Rodmartin. A touch older than yours, but I've found worse discrepancies.

Ref: HO107/1867/221/2

What is the father's (David) occupation on the wedding cert?

Thanks Barbara,

Wonderful what a new pair of eyes can do.  ::)

I'll have to do some more checking. If this is the John I'm looking for, I wonder where the youngest children are in 1901. They are certainly not with John.

Later. May have found some of them in Heaton Street - and a few more! Busy, busy, busy.

Thanks again for pointing me in a new direction.

Mike

Yorkshire (West Riding) / John Midgley

In 1871 I have John Midgley, born c1852, Kirstall, a cloth dresser,  living with his father in Wortley.

In 1901 I have him with his wife Maria (a widow who he married in 1898), living in Leeds.

I'd be gratefull if anybody can find him in 1891 and 1881.

He's not the John married to Jane by the way

That's got to be shopkeeper.

Pity "Pheby" has no occupation in 1851 - perhaps she lost the shop!

Looks line Bella = Bertha comparing the family in 1881 and 1891.

Numerators transcription error probably.
