*COMPLETED* I notice almost all messages are followed or preceded by an oval logo which reads "NEW".  I would have thought that was added automatically.  Why doesn't it appear in connection with my 'new' postings?

Bedfordshire Lookup Requests / Marriage LookUp:Beds, Hunts, Northants?
« on: Saturday 19 July 08 01:24 BST (UK)  »
I apologize if the following looks familiar to some of you.  I posted this message earlier in the "General" category rather than in the Bedfordshire LookUps:

Looking for the marriage record of a Robert Bailey and Elizabeth (unknown) circa 1778.  First child Joseph is baptised in Bletsoe September 1779.  I have found no record in Bedfordshire or immediate vicinity.  Also, searching for baptism of Robert Bailey, presumably born ca. 1759.  Any leads most appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Completed Huntingdonshire Look ups / Re: Marriage and Baptism Lookup - Bruce
« on: Thursday 03 July 08 17:53 BST (UK)  »
Thanks again Bedfordshire Boy!  I have tried to sort this one out for several years but not with complete satisfaction.

John Bruce and Mary (??Wignal ??) 's first child to the best of my knowledge was William baptised at Offord Darcy in 1813 so an 1810 marriage date fits better.  The death certificate of one of John's children (he dies circa 1875 in Wisconsin) gives his mother's maiden name as Wideland.  This is not a surname that I have ever found in any record, anywhere.  It is possible that given the passage of years, pronunciation change, and the fact that information at death was provided by a spouse or next generation that Wignal morphed into 'Wideland'.   The fact that at her death Mary's  age is recorded as 61 when it was more likely to have been 65 also does not bother me too much.  I've seen wider gaps in accuracy by far.

The birth of James still remains a mystery. In the next generation (James' grandchildren) several family members relocate to Hail Weston.  Had they lived there previously?

Regards,
David

Any assistance is most appreciated.  I have looked for these two entries for several years with no luck.

Many thanks,

Completed Census Requests / *COMPLETED* "By certificate???"
« on: Wednesday 02 July 08 03:04 BST (UK)  »
**completed** What would the phrase "by certificate from Roxton" indicate when recorded in the marriage register of another parish?   Is that the same as saying the banns were read in that parish (Roxton), indicating residence there of one of the marital parties, or does it mean something completely different?
 Many thanks,
DavidD
