Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Help with occupation, please
« on: Friday 16 June 17 17:06 BST (UK)  »
I am attaching an excerpt from a wedding record.
I would like to know what you think the occuption of the bride's father, Joseph Stevenson, is.

I had previously only seen a transcription of this, but I've now got the original record, and and I am not so certain anymore. Another researcher here has also expressed doubts.

I'm not being coy, but I'm not saying what the original transcription was, as I notice that it has influenced my own interpretation, so I would like to wait and see other opinions first.

Thanks,
Bob

The Lighter Side / Randolph Caldecott, an immediate potted history ??
« on: Friday 26 May 17 11:21 BST (UK)  »
My uncle's father married three times.
His first wife was Edith Caldecott, who is related to the artist Randolph Caldecott.

In an idle moment, I entered 'Randolph Caldecott' in freeBMD and got just six entries,
which seem to comprise an "immediate potted history" for Randolph.
(all very speculative, of course  ;D)

Randolph was born in 1846, married in 1880 and died in 1898, leaving a pregnant wife behind.

The son was also called Randolph, he married in 1926 and died in 1966.

Like I said, very speculative, but it was quite amusing how it all turned up in one search and seemed to fit so well :)

Hello !

We are having a forum meet-up here in Berlin and one of the members here (Simse66 /Simone) is looking for the people mentioned above.

Franz and Ludovika SCHINKOWSKI went from Germany to Australia in the 1920's.
Can anybody help out with any more information about them ?

thanks,
Bob (and Simone)

The Lighter Side / Finally found out ......
« on: Wednesday 21 December 16 12:19 GMT (UK)  »
I recently entered a couple of names on www.geni.com, including my step-grandmother, Minna Margulies.

I've just had an e-mail from them, telling me that
Quote
Minna (Minnie) Margulies is your grandfather's wife's brother's wife's first cousin
once removed's husband's uncle's wife's nephew's wife's husband's brother's wife.

At last !!! I have been searching for that for years !!!

Happy Christmas,
Bob
