Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / 317 cm across 8 segs Ancestry dna match
« on: Sunday 27 September 20 17:45 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,
I am working on a new DNA test for a friend and her closest paternal line match is 317 across 8 segs .
We have no surname to start off with as my friend was adopted. Her mum has also undertaken a test so we are able to separate maternal from paternal matches.
The dna match has a good tree so is a good starting point.
Dna painter and ancestry relationship forecast are 50 %/40% spilt on what the common ancestor may be.
Would you start with the siblings of grandparents or great-grandparents on this one ?
Does anyone have a proven 317 cm relationship on their matches ?
Thank you so much in advance for advice

The Common Room / Double barrelled surnames
« on: Thursday 10 September 20 14:22 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I am struggling to find the correct approach in searching the GRO index and 1939 register for a doubled barrelled surname...just for example Me(a)yers-Mahon.
Am I just adding Mahon to the surname search or the whole double barrell ?
Not being able to search specifically is driving me bonkers !!
Any advice greatly appreciated

Lancashire / Schuller, Gentlemans Row, Oldham
« on: Friday 28 August 20 10:08 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
Would anyone know where I would start to look for the electoral role for Gentlemans Row in Oldham ?
I am interested in the family surname Schuller living in this street in the 1960's.
Any ideas where they are held and available to research.
Many thanks in advance.
Helen

The Common Room / GRO registrar re-registration codes
« on: Friday 07 August 20 10:42 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone,
I did a few years ago know the answer to this but can anyone re-confirm for me...
On occasional birth registration there have been additional codes added to original entry...
Would anyone know what the following mean for each specific code.
D' or S' or J' ......for example 5C S'54 or sometimes you see 5C 54a with an additional " a " at the end.
Hope this is not too confusing.

« on: Wednesday 15 July 20 15:42 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
Do any of you lovely people have a DNA match of 150cm on your DNA matches that is a proven family member ?
I'm a struggling to find a connection and there are no other shared matches with this person.
Please no directions to DNA painter as the variants are so wide.
Any thoughts ?
Many thanks

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / No DNA shared matches
« on: Monday 01 June 20 16:31 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone,

A friend has a shared match of 152cm with no other shared matches with this person.
Obviously it means that no other shared ancestor has undertaken a test.
Would it also mean that a shared surname may be really uncommon or few family from that line ?
I have traced the matched tree back to all sets of great-grand parents and their siblings to find a connection.

Any other theories ?

Many thanks and stay safe

The Common Room / Adoption Register at British Library
« on: Friday 07 February 20 14:29 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all,

Does the British Library still hold the adoption registers ? I have viewed the register before but at Birmingham library. Visiting London tomorrow and wanted to do a quick look up. I have tried to look for the order up reference to save time when I arrive but can't seem to locate it in their catalogue.
Many thanks.
