You should be able to send a PM after you have made 3 posts, so after the next one you are ok. Just find the person you need to contact, click on the green scroll under their avatar and you will be able to write them a personal message that only they can read. Welcome to rootschat.

Was going on my own handwriting, I learnt to write using copperplate, which has now degenerated to this. Also I do not hardly ever use a fountain pen these days ::)

I seem to be at a loss, what is a backwards "e"?

I was going on the connection from the "n"being at the bottom and the connection to the "r" being at the top, consistent with the other "o,s". Surely an "e" would connect to the "r" at low level and from the "n" at midpoint.

Staynor with an "o". The "e" in baptized is completely different to an "o".

The beams are resting on the top of the sides of the trench, therefore they are not struts to stop the trench collapsing but probably to hold something up, ie; the screw and handle contraption would give adjustment to whatever was hung from the bottom of the threaded bolt. Maybe a pipe but could be beams etc, . The following picture is of interest but maybe not what we have in the photo.  ;   http://www.sewerhistory.org/grfx/construct/general/images/1894_bme05.jpg

Born 7th of march 1788. Is this a transcripted copy or the original. If transcribed it would be best to check the original in case it was 1782/3 instead of 1788. It was not unusual for baptisms to take place years after the birth,  especialy if someone was seriously ill. Alice may not then have died due to childbirth. Not easy to not assume that that is the scenario, but you need proof, or you may be led down a long and fruitless path.
