Thanks again Ady

I too have searched the internet re POW Company since your last reply with only a few hits on various forums.

I plan to rejoin ancestry again in the next twelve months. I will save his info until then. The ideal of course would be to find descendants but so far no luck.

Thanks Ady

So by what you are saying he would have formed part of a company which guarded the prisoners? The hand writing is a bit difficult eg 115 or 113.
His enlistment place looks like it says Grantham?

World War One / Certificate help & service info of Arthur Edward Crowe
« on: Saturday 25 February 12 03:57 GMT (UK)  »
Some time ago when I was a member of Ancestry I downloaded a few pages from a soldier's record who I thought could be my grandfather's brother Arthur Edward Crow /e. I have a copy of the medal card for No 61653 which states he was in the Lincolnshire Regiment.

He is born about the correct time and his next of kin John Crow of the Queens Head Legbourne Louth fits with what I have been told of my own grandfather's next of kin on his enlistment "JE Crow Queans Head Legbourne"

The Certificate I have attached has me confused. It is a "Protection Certificate or Certificate of Identity" and states it is for a soldier not remaining with the colours. Does this mean  the "colours" included the Lincolnshire Regiment?

It looks like he served another twelve months after the war ended? Was this normal?

The certificate says Unit: 15 P.O.W. What does this stand for?

Is there anything more anyone can add for him.

I am at a standstill.

Thanks John915,

It is quite plausible that all three photos were taken at the same sitting. The backdrop and props are exactly the same. Even the positioning of the seat is the same in two of the photos.

Thanks for the added information regarding the uniform. It would make sense that one combination was a dress uniform while another was general wear. Thanks for the link. It confirms the uniform and also the rank. A wonderful find.

I am keeping my fingers crossed that I can get a better scan from my relative of the two sepia photos. Unfortunately the pose in the black and white print does not give us any clue to a wedding band.

Hi Jim,

What good eyes you have.

I am trying to get a better image of the photo with the girls. If I do I will have a closer look.

Thanks once again.

Hi all,

The Daisy referred to is my grandmother. This postcard photo was amongst a box of old photos and clippings of hers.

I am trying not to jump to conclusions. My first thought has been that the girl in the photo is her first cousin. He mum's brother married in Cornwall and had a daughter Hilda. The family then moved to Arizona.

But of course she could be a friend or a friend's daughter. No other family members are named Hilda.

I had hoped that the card was definitely American then I would know for sure I was on a sure thing. I do however have an ace up my sleeve in that I have just found the possible Hilda in Arizona's daughter.

I feel happy enough to send her a copy of the photo and ask her about Daisy.
Please keep your fingers crossed for me.

Thanks once again for you invaluable help

Thanks John915 for the additional information on his uniform.

It is amazing what can be gained from one photo.

I will get back with more information soon.

Thanks again for the suggestions.

I am still thinking nieces but ones I am yet to find.

He had two sisters but they were older than him.

My gran and her sister are only two years apart but born 1895 and 1893 so too old if the photo is WW1. They would have been 20 and 22 not 10 and 12.

As he was born 1881 his marriage in 1926 makes him 45.  I had wondered if he had married previously but cannot find a marriage for him so far.

Thanks for the correction everyone. It is a stamp box mark of the company.

With a bit more googling http://www.metropostcard.com/glossaryc.html says that Cyko was introduced by the Columbria Paper Company.

The only Hilda I have in my tree so far was born in England in 1902 but moved with her parents to Arizona shortly afterwards.

Would this paper have only been used in USA? or was it popular in England too?
