I hope this is the correct board for such a post. I was tossing up between this board and the photo board. (Moderator comment: moved to Photo Restoration and Dating board :) )

The photo attached is from a postcard. The post mark does not look English. Can anyone recognize it?

Also would you say the photo is about 1910 to 1914?
Is the girl aged about 10 to 12?

I would agree earlybird.

Trouble is so far I have not found two girls that would be the right age during WW1 and no possible marriage for him before 1926.

Should I try a post on the WW1 board? I do not know how to get more information on his service. I am thinking his service records might confirm whether he was married at that time.

Yes, Well spotted earlybird. My husband and I were just looking again at the photos and another which I will add now. This photo has the same dark coloured undershirt and is definitely taken in the same studio with the same seat. Again the image quality is not as good as the first print.  It certainly looks like at least two different occasions in the same studio.

Yes, he does look younger in the first photo. The face is more rounded and the natural fold lines less prominent. Maybe about 20 years or so do you think in the first and 30+ in the second photo?

Thanks James. I was thinking WW1 and about the same ages so definitely not his girls unless he married previously. If WW1 then I don't have any nieces so far that could fit the ages.

Thanks also Jim for the observation regarding the cap band. How would I go about find out when my great uncle joined and served? Does "gunnery rating" mean he was a gunner on the ship?

Any ideas on confirming his age in either photo? Once again sorry for the quality of the second print.

This photo I believe is of my gg uncle born 1881. He served on the the Theseus during WW1. If I am correct as to his approx age then it was taken around WW1 and no later. Sorry the picture has no borders and only a plain back.

The second photo is again of the same person but with two young girls. I believe it is taken at the same sitting. How old do you think they are? Another relative believes they are his daughters but they were born 1927 and 1936. He married 1926.  I have not found an earlier marriage for him. Would it be possible that he had a portrait taken with nieces perhaps? Sorry the size of the last photo is not great. I was sent the image by a relative.

Feel free if you wish to spruce him up a bit.

Hi rsinbad,

I just thought I would check before closing off for the night. What a wonderful surprise to find you had already worked your magic on our wrinkled photo. What a wonderful job.   :)

Thanks

My husband has just found this old photo which he thinks will be of his great nan. Unfortunately the copy is creased.

Any help in any way improving this image would be much appreciated. Please feel free to crop to suit  as there is a lot of space above her in the original photo.

Best wishes  :)

Hi all,

Thank you so much for your wonderful efforts with my great uncle. Never in my wildest dreams had I thought he could come out looking so good.

Sorry if the image scan was a bit hard to deal with. I do not have the original and have only received a copy of this image from a distant relative by email.

Thanks once again,

DMR
