Newspaper report has her aged 16 in 1836  trial making birth c1820.     Knocks the calculations out a bit if this is correct even if she was eighteen as already quoted.

James Thomson Sutherland b 15 March 1888 at Craigiehall , Parish of Dalmeny,  son of James Sutherland, Master Gardener, and Elizabeth Ann Thomson (Married 26 December 1885, Auldbar, Brechin) married Emily Hall 16 May 1914 at the Maitland Hotel, Shandwick Place, Edinburgh .

A Margaret Portman died 17 October 1890 at 46 Couper Street, Leith.      Aged about 73 and daughter of Joseph Portman, Grocer, Wine Merchant and Margaret Morris. Advised by  Great Grand cousin Annie Cameron.    In the valuation rolls of 1885 she is listed at 57 Trafalgar Lane, Leith.

It would appear that my left eye was not working so early in the morning.     The marriage certificate has her sole parent as Elizabeth Colville.

The 1911 census has Grace being born in England.   Parents married 15 years 1 child still living.

COLVILLE    Grace Annie        Nottingham    7b   358

Married 25th June 1930 at Roseburn Gardens Hall Edinburgh to Charles McIntyre Douglas, customs Officer,  she is named as formerly Colville now Russell.

So we have three census enumerators (1891, 1901, 1911) who got it wrong.
A memorial stone that got it wrong.
A registration that was possibly wrong.

Her father at the time of his marriage on 3 August 1886 was an "Orange Planter" with the address of Lane Park Florida.
