Hi,

I may be connected as I have 4 or 5 distinct connections to the PINFIELD name.

Firstly, as there are hundreds of PINFIELDs in Worcestershire what was your William's DoB and or date of Baptism?
Secondly, was his mum Sarah? If so, what please was her DoB and or Baptism date?

Kind regards

Mike

Hi,

The University of Leicester has a collection of directories to access for free https://www2.le.ac.uk/library/find/specialcollections/az/historical-directories

Also try the local newspaper for Bromsgrove for adverts.  The local branch of Midland Ancestors has them on-line, again for free.  You will need to register to access the papers which are weekly in pdf format. http://www.bromsgrovebmsgh.co.uk/cms/index.php  Whilst you are there check out the family announcements and WW1 info.

Simon,

Have you tried looking for potential parent's marriages?  There's a county marriage Index, but it's not on-line.  Midland Ancestors (aka BMSGH) have a fee search service.  Or a visit to The Hive at Worcester - currently closed due to Covid.

You could also look for NASH burials in GF and FF.  The old National Burial Index is now on FindMyPast.

Hi Duck,

There's a county Baptism Index at https://fhs-online.co.uk/  Basic transcription results visible without paying.  I can't see a John NASH in GF or FF.  Nearest ones are in Hanbury, about 6.5 miles away.

Mind you he could have been born there and baptised elsewhere.

Hi,

Yes, that's one of my stand bys in looking for lost births.

If you had been talking about a marriage then that might be different. I've heard that St. Martins didn't ask too many questions.  Like sticking to the time period to become "Of This Parish."  Off hand the only urgent reason a Baptism might be the health of mother or baby.  Hence Private baptisms.

Shelsey to Birmingham is about 30 miles.  That's a good two day walk.  So I suspect residence in B'ham is the most likely answer.

Hi,

I have no idea if there is any connection, but STINTON appears in:

  • PRINCIPAL INHABITANTS OF WORCESTER - from UNIVERSAL BRITISH DIRECTORY 1793-1798
  • Pigot's Directory 1835 - Worcester & environs

Transcriptions are available at http://www.bromsgrovebmsgh.co.uk/cms/  Please register (free) then Log In and enter surname in to Site search

There's also a number of STINTONs listed on https://www.parishmouse.co.uk/

Cheers

Hi,

As you are learning the TROTHs are a huge and complicated lot.  My distant connection is through the HANDS family.  Sarah Jane TROTH married a Charles HANDS in 1885.

Incidentally, the Bromsgrove branch of Midland Ancestors has on it's website the local newspaper, The Bromsgrove Messenger.  Registration and access is free.  http://www.bromsgrovebmsgh.co.uk/cms/index.php  Useful for WW1 info and family announcements.

Also there was some discussion regarding TROTH on their small forum board.

Cheers

Hi  pimpernel,

For a list of what Worcestershire Parishes have to offer at a resource level go to https://www.worcesterbmsgh.co.uk/index.html  and follow the tab link to Parish Records, where you can search for Broadway.

The very useful Parishmouse website gives a link to an old transcription now on Google Books A range of Baptisms, Marriages and Burials.  https://www.parishmouse.co.uk/worcestershire/broadway-worcestershire-family-history-guide/#mcetoc_1e0fqcen06 Scroll down to the Table of Contents: section 3, Parish Records and follow the link.   As far as I can see the original book was from 1840.  A 2020 reprint is available.

Although Worcestershire isn't 'really on-line' there are county wide indexes available:

Baptisms: https://fhs-online.co.uk/ subscription required for full results

Burials: On CD via the National Burial Index. This is now also on FindMyPast.

Marriages: Index by Bride & Groom @ Worcester Record Office, Midland Ancestors' library in Birmingham. Also as a search service https://midland-ancestors.uk/resources/search-services/search-services-for-staffordshire-warwickshire-and-worcestershire/worcestershire-marriage-index/

MI's are available at the Midland Ancestors shop as pdfs https://midland-ancestors.shop/index.php?route=product/search&search=broadway

Hope that gets you going

Mike
