South Africa / Wilson Rowntree - Douglas Wilson
« on: Monday 26 August 13 00:31 BST (UK)  »
I believe Douglas Wilson (born about 1898) was a director of Wilson Rowntree in the late 1950's based in East London. Can anyone tell me if there would be any information on him in a Who's Who or something like that?
I am trying to track the family and have lost them after about 1970.The last known address I have dates back to 1967 in East London. I would be pleased to hear from anyone who may have any suggestions on the way forward.
Do electoral rolls exist or even old telephone books that one could do a look up in.
Hoping someone can help.

Thanks for this. I'm not sure his family were aware of any heart condition and he lived until he was in his eighties and died of cancer so he did pretty well on it.

Armed Forces / Help required please - Royal Marine Artillery Discharge 1908
« on: Sunday 24 March 13 15:10 GMT (UK)  »
Hope someone can help. My grandfather was in the Royal Marine Artillery from 1899 until 1908. I do have his service records and a number of other papers which state he was invalided out in 1908. His discharge papers state the reason  'Having been invalided at R.N. Haslar for MCO'. If there is anyone who knows what 'MCO' means I would be pleased to hear from you.

Thanks

Armagh / Re: William James, Thomas & Georgina Stevenson - How to prove related ?
« on: Sunday 10 March 13 00:46 GMT (UK)  »
Gaffy, thanks for the PM. Info really great. I have also looked at the will of Elizabeth Stevenson and also her daughter's (Georgina Gracey). After paying a researcher many years ago it is fantastic to now have solid evidence.

Thanks to you both. After a very late night surfing the net it was exciting to get your response. The will looks great and certainly confirms they are siblings. I will have to resist spending the rest of Saturday on the computer. Lots of things to look at.
Aghadowey, thanks for putting the connection to the Tipperary board. I am pretty new to posting here so all the help is appreciated.

Thanks for the bit about the wills . Thought it was a bit strange. I notice the amounts are different on the two notices. If I wanted to purchase a copy, is it better to get a copy of the Irish one shown on the Archives website or doesn't it make any difference?

This is great. Both lots of info good. Thanks a lot.
Since posting tonight I have found Jeannie's death. 7th July 1941, Dublin. I see there is a will in  England as well as one in Ireland. Something to follow up. I didn't really think of looking further afield which is rather short-sighted on my part as my family is spread far and wide!!!

I have also posted on the Armagh section as I am trying to prove the connection to my great grandfather William James Stevenson.

Thanks again.
