Title: John Dawkins b. c1799
Post by: Brie on Saturday 05 June 10 15:35 BST (UK)
Hi,

I am looking for some confirmation of a birth and baptism.

John Dawkins was according the the 41, 51 and 61 censuses born c1799 in Rothwell.

On the IGI there is an extracted record for a John Dawkins b. 30 July 1798, bapt. 16 August 1799 at the Independent Chapel, Rowell, parents George Dawkins and Sarah.

Is Rowell a transcription error for Rothwell? Any information on John (I do have his census records 1841-71) George and Sarah would be welcome.

Thank-you
Brie

Hi Brie.

Rowell is the local name for Rothwell in the County.

I have found a grave inscription for George.

Sacred to the memory of George Dawkins, who died
the 10th day of January 18 1844 aged 70 years, and Sarah
Dawkins, who died, ? August 1843, aged 68 years.

I think this is John of 1799 son.

Affectionate Remembrance of John, beloved husband of
Sarah Dawkins, 2nd son of John and Martha , who died
April 15 1868, aged 40 years.

Sandy,

Thank-you very, very much. George and Sarah seem to have had a lot of children according to the IGI - unless there is more than one family going on - will have to investigate further -  so it's nice to know that they made "old bones" together.

Yes, I think that John is John and Martha's son. He was the older brother of my gg grandpa George. The eldest was William. I couldn't find him on the census after 1861 and I assume he was the one who was registered as dying in Kettering in 1868. I am very pleased with the inscription as in 1861 he is working away from home and I had no ides he was married. Will now have to look for Sarah.

Do you know where the graves are? One day I'd like to see them.

Thanks again

Sandy,

I've just seen the post about William - I was called away and have only just got back.

That William is the eldest son and child of John Dawkins and Martha Burnham. He married Eliza Eales. Then came John whose MI you also found, followed by Sarah and George, my gg grandpa.

I love the detail about the organ - it's so much better when you can build up details about people.

Thanks again

Sandy,

I forgot to say thank-you for the George - Sarah marriage. We'd no idea that her name was Bates.

Cheers

Hi again Brie.

I have put some piccies on the Northants board as we can not
post on Look up boards.

I could not see William (Eliza) grave but maybe you will if
you are able to visit.

The Chapel yard was very over-grown, I don't know about now.
