There is only one Jolly Family on the 1861 Census for Shapinsay Orkney and I wondered if this might be Margaret's family. They appear in 1871 also.

William Jolly m Margaret Dinnison 29 Nov 1855 Shapinsay,Orkney
There is a Margaret Jolly b.22 Apr 1856 in Shapinsay Orkney – parents are William Jolly and Margaret Dinnison. Two siblings Christina Leask Dinnison Jolly b.21 Dec 1862 and William Jolly 17 Mar 1858.

Living at Westhill, Shapinsay, Orkney 1861
William Jolly Head 37 Farmer 106 acres b. Kirkardine, Dunnottar
Margaret Jolly 39 b. Shapinsay
Margaret Jolly 4 b.Shapinsay
William Jolly 3 b.Shapinsay
John Jolly 6mns b.Shapinsay

They have two servants living with them
Mary Shearer 17 Domestic Servant b.Eday
John Sinclair 19 Ploughman b.Burray

Margaret Jolly m Robert Garden 16 Sep 1874 Kirkwall, Orkney

Robert Garden b.4 Nov 1874 Kirkwall, Orkney (son)

Robert Garden senior was my great grandfather. He was the illegitimate son of Barbara Allan and Robert Garden (I ordered the birth certificate!). He was born in Rayne, Aberdeen. I've done lots of research on this as I'm writing a book on my father, Oscar Garden, who became a pioneer aviator. I have also written a long article on Robert Garden and his commercial trading empire (including the floating shops) and this will soon be published in Scotland's Northern Times.
If you email me I can send you more info and the family tree ...

Margaret Jolly was my great aunt. Her brother John was my great grandfather. He founded John Jolly coal in Kirkwall. John Jolly still exsists but deals in oil and shipping.
I'd love to hear your side of our family.
I remember Bob Garden married to Olive from South Africa. He had a shop in Bridge Street just along from our Coal Office in Kirkwall.
My mum is still alive. She is 91 and perhaps could help out.
I'll try and attach a photo of my great grandfather John Jolly and his wife Mary Jane Wilson Flette.
Best regards

Robert Garden, my great-grandfather, had a shop in Bridge Street, but he was married to Margaret Jolly. I wonder if Bob Garden is the son of my great-uncle William Garden who married Barbara Sinclair as he had a son Robert. William married again after Barbara died.

Yes. Robert & Mgt had a son William married to Barbara Sinclair.
They had a son Alfred Edward and Robert (my uncle Bob)
Uncle Bob's half brother was my mum and dads best man at their wedding but I can't remember his name.
Uncle Bob married a lady from South Africa who's name was Olive. (she never returned hom).
They had 2 girls Wendy and Moyra or Moira.
Moira married Jjimmy Patterson and they had a daughter Lyne whom I was at school with.

Mum and dad's best man was Kenny Garden a half brother to Uncle Bob. Kenny was taken prisoner during the second world war in Germany. He hurt his back in a salt mine or perhaps it was chalk mine. His brother Jim went out to canada. Violet Garden had a club foot. She became a Chiropodist. She was a sister or half sister to uncle Bob.
I don't think I ever told you my name. I was Barbara Loudon Jolly before getting married.
