Stephen Maddox (maddocks) an ancestor married in St. John's Newfoundland in 1799 to Mary Marshall.

He stated he is from Carrick-on-suir but I can find no record of him.

What would have been happening in Carrick at that time?  Could he have been posted their with the Royal Navy or other military source or is he a local that I just can't find?

Does anyone have any info on him or know where I can go to find out about the maddox family around that time....
