Stevens of Trowbridge
« on: Wednesday 25 August 04 19:13 BST (UK) »
Charles Stevens was living in Dartford, Kent from 1861 - 1891 and he claims to have been born in Trowbridge. Census details would give his birth year as 1824/25. Is there anyone researching Stevens from Trowbidge pre 1825?

Hi Alex,
I am not researching Stevens but found this on the VRI. This Charles appears to have many siblings if you think this is the right person and you want them just let me know. Regards, Frances

Hi Frances

Thanks for that.

I have looked at the VRI and also the IGI and my conclusion (without any evidence apart from the IGI) is that the parents of "my" Charles were William Stevens and Sarah Garrett who married Feb 14th 1814 in Trowbridge. The IGI could take me back a  couple of generations, but needs to be proved at some time - perhaps a visit to Trowbridge is called for.

I think the siblings you mention must be those born after that marriage date, ie Mary Ann (1814), Eliza (1817), Jane (1819), James (1821) and Simeon (1824).

Perhaps there are decendants of these siblings out there somewhere? Any takers?

Hi,
I'm slowly gathering information on the Trowbridge Stevens/Stephens family; it is a fairly large one, and hard to figure out who exactly belongs to who. My connections to it are not direct as far as I know however, there is a lot of mention of the family in connection with my Hillman's and Line's. I was interested to see your Charles in Dartford at that time, as one of my Line family was also living there at that time, and having children there. I follow every lead!! I'll have a look through my notes, and the parish registers, see if I can find him. If you have any other info since, great and can you let me know.
regards
