You should be able to locate her death record through the online index for Victorian BDM at:

http://online.justice.vic.gov.au/

Unfortunately it is pay per view, but the good news is you can order the certificate online right away, so you wouldn't be waiting long.

chrissy

do you have any of the certificates ie. death, births of children.

Where was the first child born?

Even though registration was compulsory, sometimes they weren't registered.  If any of the certificates give a date, I'd probably check the church records for that period.

Cheers

chrissy,

Perhaps they did not marry?

Do you have the death certificates of Samuel and Susan?  What do they say about the place and date of their marriage?

Hi Chrissy
I don't know if you've had any luck with your search yet but you asked if there was any reason a marriage couldn't be found.
I had the same problem with my great grandparents. Searched high and low and eventually mentioned it to my uncle who is now nearing 80. He said that back in earlier times it wasn't uncommon for a couple to just make their vows in front of friends and family ( I guess something like a marriage celebrant these days). When this happened the marriage wasn't always registered. My great grandparents were definitely married, he told me, but their marriage was never registered. Maybe the same thing happened in your family.
Cheers
Ruth
