What an amazing thread.  Well done everyone.
I only wish I'd found it earlier.
I know the crash site well and visit it two or three times a year.
About 40 years ago an old family friend gave me a piece of the wreckage and told me of his involvement on that fatefull night.  He lived in Cwmgiedd a village not  far away and heard the explosion of the crash.  He along with his brother joined a group of local men that went out onto the mountain that night, led by a local shepherd, to look for survivors.  The area was ablaze and it was obvious  that the aircrew had perished.
The military took away quite a bit of the wreckage including the engines and guns.   Part of the airframe is still there.
I still have the little piece of wreckage given me all those years ago.

A niece of one of my father's aircrew has contacted me due to my
website, and was interested in information from my father's log
book, etc, as her uncle died quite young and hated to speak about
the war...He wrote a letter to her in which he recalls his experience
on the Wellington....the night training ...Brought these boys to mind once again...
as well as the feeling of gratitude that my Dad and his crew survived....J..J.
