Birth record for Albert Joseph Morton
« on: Tuesday 01 November 05 01:28 GMT (UK) »
I'm looking for an Albert Joseph Morton who died in ChCh NZ 1960 aged 88 years, had lived all his life in NZ.
Repeated searches of BDMfound nothing.
Death notice said born in Greymouth.
His parents should have been Maurice Morton and Mary (nee McCarthy).
He had an older brother Maurice George Morton who was born in Ballarat Australia abt 1865 and was in NZ two years later.
I do know that Mary (Mother) couldnt read or write.
Mary remarried in Hokitika in 1877 to a Edward Hall.

Any one able to help with further ideas for tracing this person please?

Hi,

Are you sure you have the correct parents?

I looked up Morton births in Ballarat Victoria Australia
and there is no record of Maurice Morton or Mary McCarthy
or George Morton.

There are 5 Morton births in Ballarat between 1862 to 1864
none of them match the names you listed.

Hi Telephonist

There is record of a Thomas MORTON, a miner who drowned in the Paroa, Greymouth  in 1871..........? ???  This would fit with Mary MORTON nee McCARTHY being widowed and remarrying in 1877..... ???

Christchurch Cemeteries Database:
http://librarydata.christchurch.org.nz/Cemeteries/
Has your Albert Joseph MORTON , he was a Goldminer.....
It also has Maurice George MORTON in there, died 1939 age 74, and  72 years in NZ and says he was born in Ireland

And ..or but...is this your Maurice MORTON snr arriving in Victoria Australia in 1855
http://proarchives.imagineering.com.au/index_search.asp?searchid=23
MORTON, MAURICE age 17, arr AUG 1855 on Ship: OLIVER LANG,  Ref: B097003

Still got you no closer to Albert's birth though  :(

Cheers
