RUMADE - RUNADE etc
« on: Sunday 29 August 04 02:25 BST (UK) »
Is anyone researching this name?  Over the years on other boards I haven't seen anyone mention Rumade or any variant, I'm wondering if I'm the sole researcher   :-\

My ancestor is Anna Rumade who married John Jennings 3 Oct 1744 at White Notley, five children were baptised there.  I have no idea of where Anna was born or baptised, in 2002 I carried out a quick search of White Notley with no success, I intend to do a more thorough check of White Notley this year.

Now that this board is a bit on the quiet side I thought I'd throw this name in the ring and see what happens, probably nothing  ;D.  I'd be interested in hearing from anyone researching the name regardless of whether it links with mine.
Cheers

Hiya,
Just in case you didn't know Rumade is a French word for the clearing in woods for wild boar (sanglier) where they can hunt for roots, truffles and small insects.

Fougées, Revellis, Rumade: Autres noms régionaux des boutis et fouilles.

Basically this translates to
Fougées, Revellis, Rumade: Another regional name for clearings and excavations.

Sometimes it helps being a Francophone!  ;)

Hi Geoff,
No, I had no idea of the meaning of Rumade.  My first thought on reading your post was oh no! not French  :o
I haven't been too keen on things French since they did the underground A-bomb test on a French Polynesian atoll.  It was a bit too near Australia's backyard for comfort.  I have been very vocal about the French as a nation, mostly but not always joking, being of English birth that is of course my heriditary right  ;).  So my second thought was musn't let the family and friends know or I'm in for a real hard time.  I did make the mistake of telling my wife, bless her, who has promised to tell all and sundry.
Soooo I'm not sure whether to thank or curse you for that piece of info.

On a serious note thanks for the info, it really was of interest.  ;D

Hi Geoff,
Just had a look at that site, the darn thing is in French, I could only understand a few words but unfortunately they were scattered so it didn't help with comprehension.  Now you know why I am critical of the French, they will insist on speaking and writing in French  ;D  Does that make me a Francophobic?

I would really know what on earth led you to that site? I can't imagine what, unless it was a Google find, I might just go and do a Google.
Regards.

Hi Geoff,
I tried Google last night and saw the Rumade finds, I sent a reply to my own last post to tell you so but encounted a glitch.  Not only did that post fail to get through but I couldn't even see my previous post.  Today I found the answer (fingers crossed) something had changed my computer's date setting to 24 Sep 2099.
As for the other Google finds, they all come back to me, one of them brings up the Takeley ffewells subject started by Susie1, nothing about Rumade in it, all there is concerning my self is a post I put in there on the ffewells  ???.
Guess I am the only person researching Rumade  :o
I will check on Google again tonight in case I missed one.
