Notice dated 18 June: Patrick WALSH, bachelor, a goldminer aged 29 years, residing at Charleston, length of residence 8 years to marry Bridget HENNIGAN (in brackets below, the name is spelled HANIGAN), spinster aged 17 years, residing at Charleston, length of residence 1 ˝ years, at Roman Catholic Church, Charleston. Name & Relation of Person giving Consent in Case of a Minor: Patrick HANNIGAN, father of Bridget. Minister: Rev’d Thos WALSH, R.C.

This is just wonderful as I never knew how long Patrick was in NZ.

Hi Sheba,

Just be aware that "length of residence" referred to the time that person had been living in that particular area, not the length of time they had been in the Colony (as it was then). Many people gave their "length of residence" in ITM's as '3 days', meaning that they had travelled a distance to get married.
