Hi Yokel

Well, once again back to the drawing board...  :P

Yup, I also knew about John Kendall & Sarah Musgrave in Houghton but they did not seem to fit and were seemingly a dead end.
As I did, many years ago, exhaust Houghton Parish and everything I could find and track down trying to link Jarvis with Kendall/Kendle.

If a could find a Kendall event where one "Margaret Jarvis" is a witness to a baptism/Marriage then that would also be a key to work backwards on which family was hers.  But so far nothing.  Nothing where a Kendall and one of my known Jarvis' are together.  And of course because of the early time frame the records are harder to find.

Margaret Kendall and Christopher Jarvis only had two daughters: Elizabeth and Mary Ann... and while it may mean nothing, there is never a Susan or Sarah in this line.

I'll perhaps try and get some help to eliminate through census who is who?

thanks Yokel :)

I just looked at the link you provided from Family Search with copies of the actual parish registers.
this is something I had never seen years ago when I was first searching - free access to the actual registers from Norfolk!!!!

Any thoughts I how to perhaps go about searching these parish by parish working outward from East Rudham where I know Margaret Kendle married Christopher Jarvis.  Which parishes first?? Thoughts?

I am certainly not adverse to sitting over an extended period and going entry by entry however I wonder if there are transcriptions?

I am liking the John and Mary from Helhoughton and wonder about tracking them first to see if they had more children, then if any died along the way etc...

Thanks again for the hand

This is a useful site for locating Parishes

http://maps.familysearch.org

Once you select a Parish, then select the options tag which will allow you to find contiguous Parishes.

Looks like there could be a Will available, need to do some checking, will get back to you.

Thanks Rosie

The hunt is on between this couple in Cockthorpe, provided I can find them baptising a Margaret in a near by parish and a John Kendall and Mary in Helhoughton who baptize a Margaret and twin Sarah.

Hoping one of the two couples are the parents to my Margaret Kendall Jarvis....

There is an Admin Bond dated 1790-1793 for John Kendell in Houghhton, I think this is the John who married Sarah Musgrave, so, as you say it looks (literally) like a dead end.

Another Admin Bond dated 1788 for John Kendall in Gt Massingham (John Kendall married man age 56 buried 29 Apr 1788) is to early for the John who married Mary Middleton in 1785 then had Sarah and Margaret in 1799in Helhoughton, (Sarah Kendall infant buried 4 Oct 1799 at Helhoughton).

John Kendall was a widower when he married Mary Middleton in 1785, so could have been older than Mary.

Could the burials of John Kendall 13 June 1821 (age 74) and Mary Kendall 13 June 1825 (age 52) in East Rudham be the parents of Margaret, this would put her in East Rudham where she married Christopher Jarvis.

Hi Yokel

Thank you so much for the detective work here.  :)
Eliminating those and bringing it back to possibly John Kendall and Mary Middleton...
Or this John Kendall and Margaret Thomson wherever they went too

So yes, so far I can see no reason why the John and Mary burials in East Rudham could not be the parents of Margaret Kendall-Jarvis.

In fact given their respective death dates it might explain why there seems to have been no trace of a "kendall" in Margaret's married life....if this John was her father he died just after she married Christopher Jarvis in Jan 1821.  And the Mary here died only a couple of years later in 1825.

John and Mary's respective ages at death would kind of match what you found for John Kendall and Mary Middleton...him being a widow when he married Mary in 1785 and presumably she being young enough to have still been babies in 1799 ... now we all know the ages at death can be flawed somewhat...because if we perhaps assumed it is the same Mary and she was 52 at death she was born 1773 - making her only 12 when she married John Kendall ...  :-\

Given there is a almost 15 year spread between marriage and birth of twins Sarah & Margaret, this couple must have had more children?
Do we know if John Kendall and Mary Middleton had any other children aside of their twins?

Thanks yet again
