Tarbert Street ran parallel with and to the south of Rottenrow between Hume Street and Balmano Brae. It was in front of this tenement. That's Balmano Brae the steep hill to the right. Rottenrow was at the top of the hill to the left.

The attached OS Map from 1896 shows Tarbett(sic) St. https://maps.nls.uk/view/82891761

Travelling west from the High Street/George Street junction, the first road off to the right is Balmano Street.  Turn into Balmanno St, and the first cross street is Dean Street, and the second, further up the hill towards Rottenrow is Tarbett Street
