Hi Bruce

Do Australian marriage certificates, like English ones, give father's name? If so do you have it? Trying to pin him down using censuses.

Is there a Bedfordshire connection?

Regards

David

Hello David,

Thank you for your interest:  I lost your reply and have finally foound it again.

I do not have a positive link to Bedfordshire at this stage.  Also, Queensland archives are not the World's best!!  many, many complaints......

I will persevere with my researching.

Thank you once again

Evening :)
I have just begun trying to research my family tree and am seeking information on the Heley family. I recognised a couple of names in the post regrading John Howden Heley and am confident this too is my part of my family tree. I would be extremely grateful for any information you could share or even a hint as to where I might continue my search.

Kindest regards

John Howden Heley was a son of Marion Howden (daughter of John Howden and Euphemia Craig of Old Crichton Dean, Humbie Parish, East Lothian, Scotland) and her first husband Robert Heley. Marion's father and most of her siblings emigrated to the Kilmore district of Victoria, Australia in the 1850s. However, Marion remained in Scotland until 1875.
In 1853 she married Robert Heley and resided in the Glasgow district. They had 5 children including John Howard Heley born 3 March 1860 at Greenock. Following the death of Robert Heley, Marion married Donald McGregor (in 1867). They had 4 children born at Edinburgh. In 1875, Marion, Donald and several of Marion's children (by either marriage) emigrated to Brisbane, Queensland, including John Howden Heley.
Marion and Donald had a fifth child Jessie McGregor born in 1877 during a sojourn in Victoria (possibly when visiting her siblings).
I will paste below part of a Howden family table that I compiled.
